The Power of Life and Death

A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered. (Proverbs 17:27)

Are you using your words sparingly?  A man and woman who seeks God first will choose to use words that heal, not harm.  Words that produce character in someone else, not destroy, or demean it.  Our words should build people up, not tear them down.  What’s your tone like in a conversation?  Have you maintained eye contact to let someone know you really care about what they are saying?

Loose Cannon

The tongue holds the power to promote life into the lives of those around you or it can be a loose cannon firing off and producing countless casualties.  Do you want to be responsible for promoting life in people this week or aiming carelessly with loose cannons from your mouth?  We need to learn how to take better responsibility for the words that proceed from our mouths.  May we find wisdom in the Proverbs and let the words transform our hearts.  I pray our understanding may change, so that we can be conformed into God’s likeness alone.

Solomon mentioned the tongue many times in the Proverbs because he knew of its power and warned us of the danger we would face when opening our mouths.  It’s time to heed the principles we see in Proverbs and let the Scripture transform our lives so we will not let loose cannons fly out and harm those we care about.  Here are some of Solomon’s words and ways to apply them in our daily lives:

When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. (Proverbs 10:19)

I Wish

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know the love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.(Ephesians 3:17-19)

My wish for you today is that you understand the tremendous depth of God’s love for you and in this understanding may you live it out in ways that leave people wondering what you’ve got!   My prayer for you is that in understanding God’s love, you will find it’s okay to admit your shortcomings and know through your weakness God’s strength will me made perfect in you.  Here is the verse to remind you of exactly that…

“…My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

One Child Loved

Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’ (Matthew 19:14)

Today I want to continue with the time line I began last week on my life.  It’s all in the “Celebration of Life” series.  The time line begins on…

June 24th, 1978 ~ The day my parents were married.  I celebrate the day my parents united their lives because it brought the gift of five wonderful lives into this world.  The lives of myself and my siblings.

June 14th, 1979 ~ The day I was born.  My parents chose life.  I celebrate all the wonderful memories they have given me and continue to give me.

July 17th, 1980 ~ The day my brother Caleb was born.  I celebrate the gift of having a great brother and the wonderful names our parents gave us.

Sheer Brilliance

…His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth.  His splendor was like the sunrise:  rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden. (Habakkuk 3:3-4)

I have lived through almost 11,000 sunrises and sunsets.  That’s pretty incredible!  I don’t know how old you are or where God has you right now, but take a moment to think about how many sunrises and sunsets you’ve lived through.  I’m not talking about the ones you’ve been able to see, I’m talking about the ones you’ve lived through.  I have been alive for almost 11,000.

Last week, I started a “Celebration of Life” series.  I will be turning 30 in June and have been looking back through my time on this earth.  God has been so good to me!  I’m not saying that life has always been good, but I am saying God has been good!  Life has been hard at times!  In fact, it’s been down right difficult, but God has been extremely faithful!  That is the one thing that I want to share with you throughout my series on the “Celebration of Life.”  God will always be faithful!  He will not fail us!
