Power in the Word ~ Psalm 119 Part 5

I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word. I recounted my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees. Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders. My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. (Psalm 119:25-28)
The passage in today’s devotional reflects back on some of the things we have talked about, so we will walk through the passage step by step.

vs. 25 “…preserve my life according to your word.”

What are we in life, if we do not have the Word to guide us?  Where will we go with our questions?  Who will bear our burdens? Without the Word we do not even know where our lives began, where they are going, or where they will end.  Our souls are but dust on this earth without the breath of God breathing life into us.  With Him and His Word we truly have meaning and purpose. The New Living Translation says “…revive me by your word.”  The next time you sit down to read God’s Word look at it as the Bread of Life that feeds your soul.  Eat it as if it’s the only thing keeping you alive because honestly without it, you can’t live.  God is the One who breathes true life into you.  He will revive your soul during those times you think you can’t go another moment in time, He will give you strength for the next step you need to take, and He will be everything you could possibly need on this earth. Beyond that, He is preparing a home for you in glory!

Treasured Words ~ Psalm 119 Part 2

How can a young person stay pure?  By obeying your word.  I have tried hard to find you– don’t let me wander from your commands.  I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.  I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.  I have recited aloud all the regulations you have given us.  I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches.  I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways.  I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word. (Psalm 119:9-16, NLT)

Yesterday, we learned the importance of walking with integrity for God and following the instructions of His Word.  May our actions always reflect His heart and His desires for our lives.  We can’t enter in to the next section of Psalm 119 without truly committing to walk uprightly before the Lord in every action of our daily routine.  I know I want to reflect righteousness.  I want to live a life of faithfulness for God and follow His commands of Love.  When you can commit to this, then you will be ready for phase 2.

Do you have an ANSWER?

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. (1 Peter 3:15)

This morning started out early, as Paul and I headed out to the airport.  Everything was going fine…we got to the airport, got our tickets, got our luggage checked, and…  Oh, here is where the “fine” takes a slight detour.  While in line for security, we realized we had been marked with the SSSS on our tickets!  We were going to have to go through the, oh too familiar extra security check!

Now granted, I have come to appreciate this check as it reminds me of the things that took place on September 11th, 2001.  I continue to be grateful for the men and women who are fighting to keep our nation safe from any more attacks.  So even if in this very moment I have to feel inconvenienced by a little security check, I’m ok.
