Nothing Left Undone

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)

“Being confident…”

Many Christians walk around quoting this verse, but I think few of us take the time to understand it word for word.  From the beginning of the verse, Paul, the author of Philippians, wants us to know that we are to live in a confident way.  He could have said, “Be confident…”  and that would have put emphasis on the word “confident”.  Instead, he says “Being confident…” which puts emphasis on the word “being”.  This is to remind us we are to be living in a confident way continuously.  There is never a time that we are not to live confidently.  We can be confident because of who Jesus Christ is in us.  Are you living in a confident way?  If not, what has kept you from being confident?

Compass of Truth

Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. (Psalm 25:4-5, NIV)

“Show me your ways…”

The first step we need to take with God is to ask Him to show us His ways for us.  We need to open our hearts to Him and let Him reveal the hidden places that have yet to surrender to His will.  The word “ways” in this verse literally means “road, path, course of life” in the Hebrew language.  God desires to reveal the course of your life to you, if you take the time to come to Him and seek His best for your life.  Will you allow God to show you what He has for you in the next steps you take?  Will you trust Him even when you can’t see what’s ahead?

One Quarter

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James 2:17)

A couple months ago I received this email from my wonderful sister-in-law, who has become a devoted friend.  I have saved this story for a special occasion and felt that this is the time to share it.  I’ve been doing a study on the men and women who lived by faith.  There are so many people in the Bible who looked forward to the things of God in faith, their actions followed what the believed God would do, not what they always saw Him do.  Sometimes I think we live out lives in conditional ways.  Like, “God I’ll go on a missions trip for You when things change in my finances…”  “God I’ll share the Good News of Your Son Jesus when it’s a little more convenient…”  “God I’ll go to church when I’m not so tired, when the week hasn’t been so full, etc.”  The excuses seem to pile up in several areas, but isn’t the time to live for God, right now?  Here is a story about a bus driver who was paying attention to the actions of a passenger on the bus.

Let the World Know

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live and in your name I will lift up my hands. (Psalm 63:3-4)

This Scripture passage has meant a lot to me over the last few years and today it was a fresh reminder of God’s faithfulness to me.  His love truly is better than life and with every breath I take, I hope I can praise Him to the best of my ability.  I want to glorify the One who knows me best, the One who daily gives me new moments to live out.

It is always such a blessing to read God’s Word and be refreshed by the contents I find inside.  This Psalm has continued to be like a refreshing spring of water that I find myself making weekly trips to get my dose from.  My hope is that you will write it down and apply each word to memory.  Please allow God to use the words of this passage to minister to your heart and refresh your soul.

I Wish

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know the love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.(Ephesians 3:17-19)

My wish for you today is that you understand the tremendous depth of God’s love for you and in this understanding may you live it out in ways that leave people wondering what you’ve got!   My prayer for you is that in understanding God’s love, you will find it’s okay to admit your shortcomings and know through your weakness God’s strength will me made perfect in you.  Here is the verse to remind you of exactly that…

“…My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
