Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. (Psalm 25:4-5, NIV)
“Show me your ways…”
The first step we need to take with God is to ask Him to show us His ways for us. We need to open our hearts to Him and let Him reveal the hidden places that have yet to surrender to His will. The word “ways” in this verse literally means “road, path, course of life” in the Hebrew language. God desires to reveal the course of your life to you, if you take the time to come to Him and seek His best for your life. Will you allow God to show you what He has for you in the next steps you take? Will you trust Him even when you can’t see what’s ahead?
“…teach me your paths…”
Sometimes I think it’s easier to ask God to show me what He would have for me, than to have Him teach me something new. The teaching process can be quite difficult. The Lord wants to teach us many things and each one of us is in a new learning phase. Are you willing to be taught the things that God has for you? Will you take the paths God has for you? You can’t see ahead, so this is why you need to learn God’s ways. You can’t attempt to hike the Appalachian Trail without having the proper equipment like a compass, sleeping gear, food, water, etc. In the same way, you need to know the paths God has for you by knowing His ways!
“…guide me in your truth…”
Show me, teach me, and guide me! One thing leads to another and certainly depends on the other. It’s time to take action in the third step! God wants you to be guided by your compass of Truth. The Truth you find in God’s Word will be the fuel to keep your fire burning. Only God’s Word can show you God’s ways, can teach you His paths, and guide you in His Truth. Take time to read God’s Word daily and let it be your guide to what you should be doing on a daily basis.
Place your hope in the Lord all day long!
Dear Father God, Please continue to show me Your ways and teach me to see the paths You have for me. Guide me in Your truth and help me to walk out the things that You have for me. May I live my life for You in a full and complete way!
May the Truth be my Compass,
