Nothing Left Undone

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)

“Being confident…”

Many Christians walk around quoting this verse, but I think few of us take the time to understand it word for word.  From the beginning of the verse, Paul, the author of Philippians, wants us to know that we are to live in a confident way.  He could have said, “Be confident…”  and that would have put emphasis on the word “confident”.  Instead, he says “Being confident…” which puts emphasis on the word “being”.  This is to remind us we are to be living in a confident way continuously.  There is never a time that we are not to live confidently.  We can be confident because of who Jesus Christ is in us.  Are you living in a confident way?  If not, what has kept you from being confident?

“…that He who began a good work in you…”

Sometimes life gets a little rough and it’s difficult to understand what God is doing.  During those times, we need to remember this portion of Philippians 1:6, God has begun a good work in you.  What He has begun, He will certainly finish.  You can look all throughout Scripture to find examples of great work God has done.  He was faithful to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, He was faithful to give Abraham and Sarah a son (in their old age), He was faithful to feed Elijah by the ravens, He has been faithful time and time again.  Continue to go back to God’s Word and read the stories of His faithfulness.  God has begun a good work in you and He will be faithful to finish that good work!

“…will carry it on to completion…”

I love the word “carry” here in the verse.  God will carry the work He is doing in us from beginning to end.  We do not have to look at it as a burden because God has chosen to carry it for us.  Once we give our lives over to God through Jesus Christ, He starts a work in us.  This work is carried to completion.  Wow, completion, another beautiful word, given to us in Scripture.  This means I will some day be a whole person, nothing will be lacking, I will be complete.  This thought leaves me speechless.  May God give you His peace, as you rest in knowing one day you will be made complete.

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

Dear Father God, I’m so grateful it is You who begins and finishes the good work in my life.  Thank You that it is not a guessing game if this good work will be finished.  You have said in Your Word that You will complete it and I know You have never left anything undoneMy life is in Your hands!

Thank you for the great comment! I think it is very important to remember that our words can bring pain or joy, so I like the fact that your comment reminded me of that. Also, I appreciated the reminder about life or death in words. It is an incredible thought to comprehend God speaking the Universe into being. He is amazing! It’s hard to imagine that some can deny the very existence of God or accept that there was a Creator. I look forward to reading your blog and seeing how God is using you to bring light into this world.
