Blessed [with spiritual security] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord. For he will be [nourished] like a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out its roots by the river; and will not fear the heat when it comes; but its leaves will be green and moist. And it will not be anxious and concerned in a year of drought nor stop bearing fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8, AMP)

I love the imagery that this passage of Scripture creates in my mind.  I want to be that tree planted by the water, who never fails to bear fruit for the Lord.  Let’s take a look at how this can be done!

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.” (Jeremiah 17:7)

I am blessed when I choose to trust in the Lord and place my confidence in Him.  Wow, that’s a beautiful thought!  I can trust God and know that He has my best interest in mind.  I can place my full confidence in His promises and know that He will never fail me.  I’m blessed when I choose to trust in God’s unfailing love and remember that He is always faithful!

“He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream…” (Jeremiah 17:8)

Once I place my trust and confidence in the Lord, my roots will reach out to the stream of Living Water.  I am refreshed daily by God’s Word.  It is God’s Word that continues to transform how I think and how I live my life.  I want to be that tree planted by the water.  I want to be tall and strong for the Lord.  May the branches of my life lift to give God praise!  May I reach out to the stream that supplies the life I long for.

“…It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are always green…” (Jeremiah 17:8)

I will not fear anything in life because I know that God will be faithful.  I know that the heat of life will not overcome me, if I place my full trust in the Lord.  I know that the contrary is also true… If I place my trust in man, my leaves will turn brown, my life will not produce fruit.  Man cannot supply what I need in life.  Man cannot give me the strength I daily long for.  Only God can refresh me through His Living Water.  I will reach for the water that refreshes my soul.

“…It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8)

I truly have nothing to worry about, if I place my trust in the Lord.  God will never fail to bring fruit out of my life, if I stay attached to Him (John 15:5).  I will continue to read the Word and learn what my heart should look like before the Lord.  I pray that even in the driest times of life, I might experience the refreshing grace of God.  May I bear fruit for the Lord and may God’s mercy freely flow from my being!

Dear Father God, I pray that I will be this tree planted by the water.  May I continue to place my full trust and confidence in You.  I know that Your Word is true.  I know that you will never fail me.  I know that You will always be faithful.  I pray that even in the driest times of my life, that I will produce fruit for the Kingdom!  May the branches of my life truly lift up to honor You!
