Blown Away
They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. (Luke 9:17)
Can you imagine watching this miracle take place? Can you imagine watching 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish feed 5,000 men? This did not even include the women and children. The number of people sitting there that day could have been 10, 15, or 20 thousand. Doesn’t that amaze you? It sure amazes me! I know that some will say, “Well, God doesn’t provide like that today.” He doesn’t work like that in my life. Well, I want to challenge you to see things a little differently. Remember this,
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
That’s right, Jesus has not changed! We tend to think the stories in the Bible are just that stories for that time frame. We forget that God wants to be alive in our lives and work these kind of miracles for us. He wants to work in a surrendered life. You see, God hasn’t changed. Nothing about His Son has changed, it’s our mindset that has changed. We stopped believing that God can come through for us. We stopped believing that the God of creation, the Lord of miracles, the Lord of Heaven and Earth, and the Savior of my heart can perform miracles in me today. He is still alive and well. Nothing has changed! Can you wrap your mind around that? Can you believe with me that God wants to do a good work in you today?
I remember hearing a personal story from someone about the glory of God in her life. She had just got saved and was still learning how to put her faith in God. She was stretching every penny and trying to make the food in her home last for her children. One night, she put her last 3 pieces of chicken in the oven to bake. And some vegetables on the stove to cook. Her sister and her family came over unannounced for dinner. Well, there wasn’t anything else in the house to feed them. So she prayed that God would supply food for them. Guess what???? HE DID! Do you know that when she opened that oven door, the pan was filled with chicken and every pot was filled with food? She had enough in leftovers to last all week. God was showing her that He is still in the business of miracles. He hasn’t changed! He wants to supply all your needs! Will you trust Him?
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19, NKJV)
This is the kind of God we serve. We do not serve a wimpy God. We serve a God who has an unlimited supply to fulfill our needs! Do you know that the word supply in the Greek actually means “to make full, to fill up, to cause to abound”? This is what God wants to do in your life. Will you trust Him to do this? Will you bring your cares and concerns to the One who can take care of it all?
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
Challenge: Read Luke 9
Memory Verse: Genesis 2:2-3
Dear Father God, I praise You for being a God of provision. I’m so grateful that You never change. I can count on You! I know that You will continue to provide for all my needs. Please help me to remember that You desire to perform miracles in my life today! May I live more like a New Testament believer every day believing that You are alive and well in me! I give You permission to blow me away!
