Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19-20)

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”
“It was great, Dad.”
“Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked.
“Oh yeah,” said the son.
“So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.
The son answered: “I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
“We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
“We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
“We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”
The boy’s father was speechless.
Then his son added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.”
Your wealth is not measured by the type of car you drive, how big your house is, how full your closet is, what your latest collection looks like, how many great electronics you have, or how full your wallet is. I know for some of us this is a big relief. And for some of you, you might be thinking your item is not on this list. Well, the point is our wealth is not measured by things on this earth. We cannot keep anything given to us on this earth. People tend to find status with their possessions, their collections, and fancy cars. None of that really matters. God is concerned with matters of the heart. What does your heart look like today?
Dear Father God, I’m so grateful for the air I breathe, the freedom I have to worship You, and the riches I’m storing up in Heaven. May I keep my eyes on eternal things and not on things of this world. It’s so easy to get sidetracked, so I pray my heart will be ever guided by Your hands! I continue to live my life for You and You alone.
