My Pocket God

…How long will you waver between two opinions?  If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him. (1 Kings 18:21)

How many of you know someone who is wavering between the One true God and a god of this world?  I happen to know quite a few and I love each opportunity I have to share the Truth of who the real God is.  There is only One who can save those who are dying daily.  There is only One who can stand the test of time and only One who does not demand our good deeds to make it to Heaven.  God Almighty is the only One who is living and active in our lives.  We pray to someone who lives today, who lived long before us, and whose presence we will still enjoy when we leave this earth.  There is no other religion that can claim a Living God, who sent a living sacrifice for our sins.

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance:  Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners– of whom I am the worst.  But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.  Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.  Amen. (1 Timothy 1:15-17)

I am enjoying this passage of Scripture a lot right now for a few reasons.  I would love to share those reasons with you and watch God do a work in your life.  He continues to amaze me and brighten my days with the very words He breathed life into.  I’m extremely grateful for the wisdom I develop through the constant study of God’s Word.  I pray this passage of Scripture reaches you like it has reached me.

The Perfect Romance

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.  Do what it says.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. (James 1:22-24)

This is truly one of my favorite passages in the Word of God.  Just so you know, I have many favorites for all occasions.  This passage is my favorite because it reminds me I can’t truly know who I am, if I don’t study God’s Word.  And I certainly will never be able to know who God is, if I don’t study Him in the letters He wrote to me.  There are plenty of romance novelists trying to come up with the perfect novel and plenty of producers trying to create the perfect romance on screen.  I’ll let you in on a little secret… the reason they keep coming short of the greatest romance is because it’s already been written for you and I.  It’s all right here in the Word of God.  Just open it up and let it change your life.  The perfect romance has been set up from beginning to end.  Nothing has been left out!

Keys ~ Psalm 119 Part 11

Do good to your servant according to your word, O Lord.  Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe in your commands.  Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.  You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.  Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart.  Their hearts are callous and unfeeling, but I delight in your law.  It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.  The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold. (Psalm 119:65-72)

Keys in this Passage

1.  Live according to God’s Word.  (vs. 65)

Hit a Home Run

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

To say that today has been interesting would be an under statement.  I realized that posting a devotional about Jesus Christ being the only way to Heaven would present an open door for people to offer feedback or disagree.  I have had one very interesting conversation take place with a man who is practicing Buddhism.  He feels that Christians are very closed minded and the devotional didn’t sit well with him.  He left a comment for me to find this morning.  This has reminded me of the verse above.
