It’s a Big World

Jesus said to him (Zacchaeus), “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” (Luke 19:9-10)

Do you ever feel small in this big world?  I can only imagine how Zacchaeus must have felt when trying to get a look at Jesus through the crowd.  He was so small compared to everyone around him.  He climbed the sycamore tree to get a good view of Jesus and Jesus responded in love.  In love, Jesus invited Himself to the tax collector’s home.  The crowd was shocked by this act towards a sinner, but Jesus continued in love.

I Run to the Lord

Read Proverbs 12 today!

To tell you the truth… I’m not really into the running part of this verse.  I like the “you are safe” part.  I don’t really enjoy running.  I enjoy a good brisk walk, but not a run.  But this verse tells me to run… to Run… TO RUN!  I have the ability to run to God.  He gives me the strength to move forward.  He wants me to realize that I can’t do anything on my own.  I do not have what it takes to survive without God.  He wants me to come running to the grace that saved me… to the love that set me free.  He wants me to run to the promises found in His Word.  He wants me to come with all my garbage and lay it down at His feet (the only place where my garbage is safe).

God does not ridicule me for not have everything perfect in life.  He never gets fed up with me!  He never stops loving me!  He never stops being a strong tower that I can run to!  He is God and He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for me, so that I can experience true life.  I have a relationship with my Father because Jesus laid down His life for my sins.  I no longer have to shed my blood or the sacrifice of an animal to please God.  Jesus took my place!  He laid down His life.  He made it possible for me to have the freedom to run to God.

Overwhelmed

Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.  Stay here and keep watch with me.”  (Matthew 26:38)

Lord, I can’t begin to imagine how overwhelming the thought of the cross, the separation from the Father, and the weight of our sins were. Lord, thank You for not giving in to how You felt that day.  Thank You for moving forward even when the weight of the world was on Your shoulders.

Find You on my Knees

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. (Psalm 62:1-2)

Living by Faith

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.  As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”  When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.”  And as they went, they were cleansed.  (Luke 17:11-14)

Dear Father God, I have really come to appreciate the three words “as they went”.  It was as the 10 lepers walked out their faith that they received the miracle.  It was as they were going on with life that they experienced something that would forever change them.  Lord, please help me to remember that life doesn’t stop when things are tough.  Life keeps right on going.  But it’s when I put feet to my faith that I see huge answers to prayer.
