Weigh Your Answers

Read Proverbs 18 today!

I want to take time this week to explore the power of the tongue!  Solomon mentions the power of our words about 150 times in the Proverbs.  The wisest man who ever lived knew the power of words.  He gave us instructions on how to promote life and avoid evil with our tongues.  Let’s take a look a few words of wisdom and apply them to our week!

What does it look like when a wise man or woman speaks?  And how can we become that wise person with our words?

1.  A wise man or woman gives a reason for the hope within them when they talk to others.

“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect.”  (1 Peter 3:15)

I Run to the Lord

Read Proverbs 12 today!

To tell you the truth… I’m not really into the running part of this verse.  I like the “you are safe” part.  I don’t really enjoy running.  I enjoy a good brisk walk, but not a run.  But this verse tells me to run… to Run… TO RUN!  I have the ability to run to God.  He gives me the strength to move forward.  He wants me to realize that I can’t do anything on my own.  I do not have what it takes to survive without God.  He wants me to come running to the grace that saved me… to the love that set me free.  He wants me to run to the promises found in His Word.  He wants me to come with all my garbage and lay it down at His feet (the only place where my garbage is safe).

God does not ridicule me for not have everything perfect in life.  He never gets fed up with me!  He never stops loving me!  He never stops being a strong tower that I can run to!  He is God and He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for me, so that I can experience true life.  I have a relationship with my Father because Jesus laid down His life for my sins.  I no longer have to shed my blood or the sacrifice of an animal to please God.  Jesus took my place!  He laid down His life.  He made it possible for me to have the freedom to run to God.

Control Issues

We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God’s purpose prevails. (Proverbs 19:21, MSG)

Read Proverbs 11 today!

I want to admit something to you!  I have control issues!  I want to control a good amount of my life, but the more I learn about God the less I feel that’s possible.  Yes, I can control my health, I can control the food I eat on a daily basis, I can control how much I exercise, and a few other things.  But if I want to be a wise person… I must surrender control of my life to God.  I must stop trying to plan my course.  I need to hand my steps over to the Lord.  Only God knows where my life is going or how to make the most of it! Fear of the Lord

Do not let your heart envy sinners [who live godless lives and have no hope of salvation], But [continue to] live in the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the Lord day by day. (Proverbs 23:17, AMP)

Read Proverbs 8 today!

Let’s finish this week by looking at the “Fear of the Lord”.  Altogether, this phrase occurs fourteen times in the book of Proverbs.  If something is worth mentioning fourteen times, than my guess is it’s pretty important.  Let’s take a look at some more of Solomon’s thoughts on this.

Nothing Hinders

Read Proverbs 4 today!

Does it ever seem like there is a lack of awe for God in today’s world?  Well, I know that I tend to see it around me and in myself.  If I truly grasp who God is and what He has done for me…  would I not approach Him first by bowing in reverence to His greatness?  Wouldn’t I find a way to make God greater in my life and not put such an emphasis on me?  Let’s take a look at some places where God was revered in the Bible.  What can we do to get back to a place of awe with the Lord?

1.  A man or woman of wisdom let’s nothing hinder their relationship with the Lord!

Moses and the Burning Bush (Exodus 3)
