Never say Never

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

Today, I celebrate my 6 month anniversary off of medication.  I celebrate the fact that there is only one “never” that God believes in.  You see, I have heard the word never many times when it comes to my health.  I heard that I would never come off of medication, never be seizure free, never be migraine free, never have full rotation in my neck after surgery, and never enjoy some of the things that I enjoyed prior to my neck surgery.  I’ve learned that God only believes in one never.  He says, “HE will NEVER leave nor forsake me.”  This is the only “never” that exists in God’s dictionary.  He blows all the other “Nevers” to smithereens.

Victory or Defeat

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. God’s Chisel

Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. (Isaiah 64:8)

No Hesitation

‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him. (Matthew 4:19-20)

It seems that no matter how many times I read this passage of Scripture, it still amazes me.  There was no hesitation!  There was no questioning!  The men simply left their nets to follow Jesus.  There have been many times in my life where God has asked me to drop my nets and follow Him.  But I have to be honest, most of the time I’m not ready to drop everything.  I tend to want to figure things out and ask a lot of questions.  I want the where, when, how, and why of the situation.  I want it all.  Often, all I get is “Just come follow me!”
