Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance:  Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners– of whom I am the worst.  But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.  Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.  Amen. (1 Timothy 1:15-17)

I am enjoying this passage of Scripture a lot right now for a few reasons.  I would love to share those reasons with you and watch God do a work in your life.  He continues to amaze me and brighten my days with the very words He breathed life into.  I’m extremely grateful for the wisdom I develop through the constant study of God’s Word.  I pray this passage of Scripture reaches you like it has reached me.

God’s Gift to Me

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:33-34)

Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, then things will happen accordingly.  All the time we seem to take our eyes off of God and put them on things of this world.  We take different directions and wonder why God isn’t there to lead us out.  In the meantime, if we choose to seek Him first and find out His direction for our lives… we will not end up in the wrong direction or down the dead end streets. But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have… (1 Peter 3:20)

This last week I was reminded of the power in this passage.  People are paying attention to every single move we make and every word we say.  It’s amazing how the smallest word or action can glorify God when done with the right attitude.  I was at the mall with my husband, shopping for a gift for a friend.  We were in one of the stores I had given my email address to.  The last time I was there I had given it to someone who was having a very bad day.  Now mind you the name on my email address is godizfaithful, so I tend to turn some heads.

Hunger Pains

God, teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course.  Give me insight so I can do what you tell me—my whole life long, obedient response.  Guide me down the road of your commandments; I love traveling this freeway!  

Give me a bent for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot.  Divert my eyes from toys and trinkets, invigorate me on the pilgrim way.  Affirm your promises to me—promises made to all who fear you.  Deflect the harsh words of my critics—but what you say is always so good.  See how hungry I am for your counsel; preserve my life through your righteous ways! (Psalm 119:33-40, MSG)

vs. 33 “God, Teach me lessons for learning…”

 
David shows us here that you never stop learning.  He was asking God to teach him more so that He would be able to stay on course for God.  May we stay pliable and willing to learn whatever God may want to teach us.  May we never come to think we have achieved enough or know enough, but may we always be willing to learn more from God.  He is full of wisdom for our lives. Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. (1 Peter 1:17)

Every passage in Scripture has some key words to pay attention to.  You can never read a verse without taking the time to study it and understand it’s meaning for your life.  I often take a passage of Scripture and help others apply it to their lives.  This time I will break down this passage and apply it to my life word by word.  Please do the same in your own life.  Take the key words that I mention and define them for yourself.  What do they mean in your life?   What is the application in your life?  How will you live this passage out?  I can write these devotionals five days a week, but I can’t live them out for you.  You need to read God’s Word, study it, and live it out.  Let’s do things a little differently today!
