Elohim Jehovah God Creator

Many Hats

But you, O Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations. (Psalm 102:12)

Are you someone who wears a lot of hats in life?  Do you have many roles to play?  Lately, I’ve been thinking about the hats I wear.  Here are just a few… Daughter of God, Wife, Homemaker, Daughter, Sister, Niece, Friend, Confident, Encourager, Writer, Counselor, Mentor, and Mentee.  We all have many hats to wear in life, but none of us wear more hats than God.  And only He wears each one well.  You never see God taking a day off or forgetting what role to play in what moment. He ever so graciously moves from role to role, being exactly who we need Him to be in every moment.

Let’s look at some of the names that God goes by in the Word.  Let’s learn more about the One who created us and knows us best.  I urge you to use the names we learn in your prayers this week.  May these names become personal to you, as you experience the amazing character of God.

Names of God

1.  Elohim ~ God is the All-Powerful One, He is the Creator.  God knows all, sees all, creates all, and is everywhere all at the same time.

“For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.  He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.”  (Deuteronomy 10:17-18)

2.  El Roi ~ The God who sees me.  There is nothing in your life that escapes God’s awareness and care.  He knows you and your troubles.

“Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.  If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.”  (Psalm 139:7-12)

3.  El Shaddai ~ The All Sufficient One, God Almighty.  God is all-powerful.  There is nothing too big for Him.

“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless.  I will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.’ ”  (Genesis 17:1-2)

Let’s continue learning more names of God tomorrow!

Dear Elohim, My Creator, the Lord who sees every detail of my life.  Lord, I praise You for the power You display in my life.  Thank You for always being there.  El Roi, Oh God, You see me and You know me.  Not a single detail escapes Your vision.  I love knowing that You are always aware of my troubles and that You give me the strength to endure each one.  My El Shaddai, my God Almighty… Thank you for being big enough for anything I will ever face.  I pray that I will continue to surrender the details of my life to Your hands.  May I trust Your timing and Your guidance in all things!
