Moments of Tranquility

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. (Psalm 62:5-6)

Today I found myself in that familiar place of solitude.  A place of quietness.  A place where it was just God and me.  A moment in time where I was with my Father and nothing else mattered.  A moment where I found rest!  Oh, how my soul longs for those moments alone with God!  I love my husband dearly and I need my time alone with him too, but there are times I need to just get away with God.  I’m not talking about my devotional time.  I need that every day.  I’m talking about those moments in time where peace reigns in my soul and the very existence of time ceases to matter.  Have you had a moment with God like that lately?

Fountain of Youth

Understanding is a fountain of life to those who have it, but folly brings punishment to fools. (Proverbs 16:22)

Understanding

Oh, how I seek more understanding each day that I live.  And each day presents a new obstacle.  Today my husband and I were going to spend the evening at the beach, walk it, and watch the sunset.  Well, thanks to GPS on our phones we ended up in a small town closer to home.  Our purpose was to find a place for dinner, but the two places we went to must have been shut down.  We could have kicked and screamed about how life just wasn’t going our way, but I believe I wrote a devotional about life being half full yesterday.   So there we were in this small town where soon we found out a few of the stores were closed down and there were few options for dinner.

Life in the E.R. ~ Psalm 119 Part 9

Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this:  Your promise preserves my life. The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law. I remember your ancient laws, O LORD, and I find comfort in them. Indignation grips me because of the wicked, who have forsaken your law. Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. In the night I remember your name, O LORD, and I will keep your law. This has been my practice:  I obey your precepts. (Psalm 119:49-56)

Last week I joined millions of viewers who watched the series finale of E.R. on television.  I have enjoyed this drama series because it’s real.  It deals with the ups and downs of personal life, as well as the every day dramas that come into an emergency room.  Life is not always filled with happy endings, at least not on this earth.  The E.R. took in all kinds of patients and was constantly rushing from one patient to another.  The doctors had to make quick decisions and sometimes the results were not happy ones.

Puzzle Pieces

The Lord said, “I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” (Habakkuk 1:5)

Are you waiting for God to do something in your life?  Do you see something beginning and wonder where God will go with it?  Or do you see a box of puzzle pieces just waiting for someone to help you put them together?  Maybe you have started to put the pieces together.  I know as a little girl, my family would work on big puzzles together.  We would get out the 500 or 1000 piece puzzles and put them on a special table.  We would start with the outer edge and work on it little by little.  It was a fun family project.  Often I found myself working on a little portion of the puzzle, maybe 5 to 10 pieces.  I was trying to figure out how they fit together.  It was always a fun challenge.

Take the Call

The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’ (1 Samuel 3:10)

I was spending some time with the Lord today in one of my favorite books of the Bible.  It’s amazing that no matter how many times I read the Bible, something new always appears.  God continues to make His Word so exciting and so relevant for me today.  I pray this passage and all of chapter 3 will be used in your life.

Have you ever been waiting for God to speak to you and heard nothing?  Have you waited time and again, yet there is no answer?  Samuel was in a place where he was still young.  He had been dedicated to the Lord by his mother Hannah and Eli was now taking care of him.

“…Word from the Lord was rare in those days; revelatory visions were infrequent.” (1 Samuel 3:1)
