Every Whisper

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.  Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind.  After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.  After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.  And after the fire came a gentle whisper.  When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.”  (1 Kings 19:11-13)

A Gental Thunder
A story by Max Lucado, from A Gentle Thunder : Hearing God Through the Storm

Once there was a man who dared God to speak.

“Burn the bush like you did for Moses, God and I will follow.
Collapse the walls like you did for Joshua, God and I will fight.
Still the waves like you did on Galilee, God and I will listen.”

You crazy Galatians! Did someone put a hex (bewitched – in NIV and KJV) on you? Have you taken leave of your senses? Something crazy has happened, for it’s obvious that you no longer have the crucified Jesus in clear focus in your lives.

His sacrifice on the cross was certainly set before you clearly enough.  Let me put this question to you: How did your new life begin? Was it by working your heads off to please God? Or was it by responding to God’s Message to you? Are you going to continue this craziness? For only crazy people would think they could complete by their own efforts what was begun by God. If you weren’t smart enough or strong enough to begin it, how do you suppose you could perfect it? Did you go through this whole painful learning process for nothing? It is not yet a total loss, but it certainly will be if you keep this up! (Galatians 3:1-4, MSG)

It’s interesting to me how this passage starts out.  Really you could put anyone in the first sentence who has taken their eyes off of Jesus.  In fact, I believe the Lord has given me many opportunities in this last year and a half to remember my character does not depend on who is around me.  My character depends on the One I serve, the One I live my life for.  I can look at a situation and see it through my Father’s eyes, if I keep my vertical relationship with God strong.

Solid Living

All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

This passage of Scripture reminds me that the Word of God is the greatest tool we have to live out our lives here on earth.  God wants to impact every aspect of our lives and influence the way we live through His Word.  The only way we can accomplish the purpose He has for us is by following His plans.  We are guided through His Word.  Let’s find out more through this passage of Scripture.

God’s Gift to Me

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:33-34)

Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, then things will happen accordingly.  All the time we seem to take our eyes off of God and put them on things of this world.  We take different directions and wonder why God isn’t there to lead us out.  In the meantime, if we choose to seek Him first and find out His direction for our lives… we will not end up in the wrong direction or down the dead end streets. Keys to Growth

Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.  But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To him be glory both now and forever!  Amen. (2 Peter 3:17-18)

We are called to be on our guard at all times.  God gives us the key to success to stay out of trouble in this world.  He let’s us know that we must grow in His grace and knowledge of His Son.  These are the two things we must cling to, so we can stay out of the chaos the world tends to offer us every moment of the day.

Here are the Keys to Growth in Grace & Knowledge:

(Let’s make it simple!)

1.  What Christian growth is not?
