Asking for Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5, AMP)

I don’t know about you but I know that I’m lacking wisdom.  I know that this verse was written for me.  So I’m going to spend a month asking God to increase my wisdom.  I want to spend the month of August in the Proverbs and find wisdom through God’s Word.  Will you journey with me through the Proverbs?  Will you come with me to find the wisdom in God’s Word?  Will you admit that your lacking wisdom?  Let’s go to God together and seek the wisdom that only He can give.

Holy Spirit Duct Tape

They were unable to trap him in what he said there in public.  And astonished by his answer, they became silent. (Luke 20:26)

Lord, please teach me to respond quickly to others in love.  May I not be trapped by words, but may I recognize the motivation behind them.  Please increase my wisdom that I may respond wisely to others.  I pray that my heart will be flooded with Your joy, peace, and love, so that out of the overflow of it my mouth speaks only what edifies You!

“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.”  ~Ephesians 4:29 (NASB)

Perfectly Designed

“A wife of noble character who can find?  She is worth far more than rubies.

Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.

She brings him good, not harm all the days of her life.”

~Proverbs 31:10-12

Celebrating God’s Design ~ Daily

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day then to remind ourselves of what God expects of us?  Solomon wrote the words of the Proverbs to young men warning them to stay away from promiscuous women.  He shared this Proverb to help young men learn what kind of women they should be looking for.  We often read it as a list of expectations, but I think we need to remember that marriage is a team effort.  It takes two players to bring out this list of qualities.

Now I want to remember the single people who are reading this devotional too.  Let me remind you that God wants you to prepare yourself as the woman in this passage too.  He wants you to become the man who brings these qualities out in the Proverbs 31 woman.  Our eyes need to turn to the Lord!  We need to search the things of God and find what is lacking in ourselves, so we can become the full package for marriage.  Marriage does not complete life, it only enhances life.  God is calling us to grow daily in Him, so that we can reflect what Scripture says to each other.  Let’s take a look at this Proverb and find the virtues for our lives!
