I Run to the Lord

Read Proverbs 12 today!

To tell you the truth… I’m not really into the running part of this verse.  I like the “you are safe” part.  I don’t really enjoy running.  I enjoy a good brisk walk, but not a run.  But this verse tells me to run… to Run… TO RUN!  I have the ability to run to God.  He gives me the strength to move forward.  He wants me to realize that I can’t do anything on my own.  I do not have what it takes to survive without God.  He wants me to come running to the grace that saved me… to the love that set me free.  He wants me to run to the promises found in His Word.  He wants me to come with all my garbage and lay it down at His feet (the only place where my garbage is safe).

God does not ridicule me for not have everything perfect in life.  He never gets fed up with me!  He never stops loving me!  He never stops being a strong tower that I can run to!  He is God and He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for me, so that I can experience true life.  I have a relationship with my Father because Jesus laid down His life for my sins.  I no longer have to shed my blood or the sacrifice of an animal to please God.  Jesus took my place!  He laid down His life.  He made it possible for me to have the freedom to run to God.

Run to Win

You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win.

All good athletes train hard.

They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades.

You’re after one that’s gold eternally.

I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line.

I’m giving it everything I’ve got.

No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition.

I’m not going to get caught napping,

telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (MSG)

Home Run Hitter

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. (1 Corinthians 9:24)

I watched a great movie the other night that taught me a good lesson from the Lord.  It’s called “Moneyball”.  Now there are some things in it that I don’t agree with, but for the most part this is a great movie with a message that can really challenge you, if you let it.  I’m not going to share all the lessons I got from the movie because that would be enough to fill a book.  Instead, I’m going to focus on the main lesson.

The theme throughout the movie was “To get on base”.  The General Manager was putting together a winning Baseball team by looking at the stats of those who most often got on base.  The goal was to create a team with the highest average on base.

Victory or Defeat

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

There was no greater victory in history, then the victory of the cross.  God triumphed over death by raising His Son to life.  Through this one act, we now can experience victory in our own lives.  Today, we have a choice…  run with victory in mind or stand defeated.  Will you chase after the victory that is yours in Jesus Christ?

Running the Race

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Yesterday, I was reminded about this great race we are in.  A race that began when Jesus became Lord of my life.  I’m reminded that I’m in this race to win.  I don’t want second place and I’m not about to lose.  I’m running with my eyes fixed on Jesus. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things in life that come along and try to entangle us.  Things that get in the way of us running a great race for Jesus.  I’m watching someone right now who is struggling with a decision to do something because of those entanglements in life.  Maybe you know someone who is in that spot too or maybe you are in that spot.  I want to encourage you to “throw off EVERYTHING that would hinder you”.  Here is a portion from my second book that I was kind of thinking about yesterday when these race thoughts came to mind.
