All I Really Need to Know

ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN “Genesis”

I’ve been studying Genesis a lot lately and I continue to be amazed at what I find there.  I have studied it many times before, but God always finds a way to help me experience it in a new way.  I’m starting to get the feeling like this could be a book that sets you up for life.  Kind of like that old saying, “All I really need to know I learned in Kindergarten.”  Yes, I feel it is very important to know the whole Bible and allow all of it to impact your daily life with the Lord.  Please don’t misunderstand me.

I simply want to draw some truths from Genesis to show you how exciting God’s Word can be.  It is vibrant, living, and active in our daily lives, if we allow it to be.  Sometimes we tend to make God’s Word complicated and forget to draw the meaning from it for our lives.  God wants us to seek His Truth, so we can be renewed daily in Him.

“the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”  (Genesis 2:7)

God is in Your Boat

Let us go over to the other side. (Mark 4:35)

Take time to read Mark 4:35-41.

This passage of Scripture begins with 8 simple words.  “Let us go over to the other side.” There was really nothing complicated about those words.  Jesus wasn’t hiding anything from the disciples.  He wasn’t playing a trick on them.  He wasn’t asking them to understand a parable.  He was being very clear with His words.  They were going to get in the boat and go to the other side of the lake.  Well, the disciples weren’t quite ready for the little adventure that would soon take place.

We see that not long after the boat set out to sea, a storm breaks out.  The waves are crashing into the boat.  The disciples become frantic.  They look at Jesus and see that He is sleeping.  What in the world is He doing?  He’s comfortable on His cushion and catching some Z’s.  You can take a look right there in verse 38.  Jesus had a cushion and He was resting away.  Do you ever feel like God is sleeping during the storms in your life?  Do you tend to do what the disciples did next?

The Power of Yet

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. (Habakkuk 3:17-19)

Habakkuk was living in some pretty difficult times.  Yet, he did not allow this to affect his mood.  He made a choice to praise God even if everything around him didn’t make sense.  He declared that he would praise God even if… Read more

Perfectly Designed

“A wife of noble character who can find?  She is worth far more than rubies.

Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.

She brings him good, not harm all the days of her life.”

~Proverbs 31:10-12

Celebrating God’s Design ~ Daily

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day then to remind ourselves of what God expects of us?  Solomon wrote the words of the Proverbs to young men warning them to stay away from promiscuous women.  He shared this Proverb to help young men learn what kind of women they should be looking for.  We often read it as a list of expectations, but I think we need to remember that marriage is a team effort.  It takes two players to bring out this list of qualities.

Now I want to remember the single people who are reading this devotional too.  Let me remind you that God wants you to prepare yourself as the woman in this passage too.  He wants you to become the man who brings these qualities out in the Proverbs 31 woman.  Our eyes need to turn to the Lord!  We need to search the things of God and find what is lacking in ourselves, so we can become the full package for marriage.  Marriage does not complete life, it only enhances life.  God is calling us to grow daily in Him, so that we can reflect what Scripture says to each other.  Let’s take a look at this Proverb and find the virtues for our lives! The Body of Christ

Just as each one of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:4-5)

The body of Christ functions best when every part of the body plays it’s role.  It doesn’t matter how small you think your role may be, it’s important to the body of Christ.
