My Insecurity ~ What Will People Think of Me

Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God?  Or am I trying to please men?  If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)

Can I be honest for a minute?  I’m getting so tired of the same old stinking trap of my enemy, “What will people think of me?”  Oh, it’s exhausting.  Let’s just call it like it is… an ugly package of insecurity and pride.  That’s why I write.  It’s the one place I can be completely honest and share what is on my heart.  I know not everyone approves of this.  Some people think it could tarnish my reputation if I share too much.  But honestly it’s not my reputation I’m concerned about.  I want to make Jesus known.  I’m more concerned about not saying enough about my Savior than saying too much!  I want to be an ambassador for Jesus and live a life that’s above reproach.

A Servant’s Heart

It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:26-28, AMP)

Lord, please teach me what it means to be Your servant.  Please give me a greater sense of humility.

Stumbling Over My Pride

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time. (1 Peter 5:6)

Lord, it’s really that simple.  You must become greater in me and I must become less.  I see how often my pride gets in the way of Your work.  And I’m truly sorry for that.  Even in these last few days, I can think of a few conversations where I stumbled over my pride.  It can get ugly at times!  I pray that You will help me overcome my pride.

Lord, may I remember that I’m a servant.  Here to serve You.  Here to do Your will!  Here to advance Your purpose.  I am not my own.  I was bought with a price.  You paid the price for my sins.  You redeemed me from the pit of Hell.

Humble Approach

For by the grace [of God] given to me I say to everyone of you not to think more highly of himself [and of his importance and ability] than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has apportioned to each a degree of faith [and a purpose designed for service]. (Romans 12:3, AMP)

This verse reminds us that there is no place for inflated pride in the believer’s life.  It’s pretty easy to get caught up in who we are when we compare ourselves to others.  We love to come out ahead and think that at least we are a little better than so and so.  But the truth is, it’s only by the grace of God that anyone of us has anything good to show for.  We must compare ourselves to Jesus and not to each other.  Jesus is the perfect standard!  And I can tell you, that every time I compare myself to Him….  I am humbled!  I have a long ways to go!
