Enter with Thanksgiving

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. (Psalm 145:3)

Thanksgiving is not something that should happen in just November for Christians.  When we read a verse like the one above we should realize that thanksgiving should take place in our hearts daily.  God’s greatness is too much for us to fathom.  He has done so many wonderful things in our lives and our hearts should wake up each morning ready to offer thanksgiving to Him.  In fact, the next verse shares exactly that with us.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” (Psalm 100:4)

This verse puts it so clearly.  Enter his gates with thanksgiving.  God calls us to be people who exclaim the glory of His name in everything that we do and say.  Do people know you are thankful for your job?  There are plenty of people out of work right now, so complaining won’t get you very far.  Do people know that you are thankful for your spouse?  Your commitment in marriage is a witness to those around you.  Do people know that you are thankful for your salvation?  You can’t convince anyone that Jesus is good for them, if you don’t show them the joy you have inside of you.  This goes for everything!  Why am I convinced of this?  Here is one verse that shows me all that I have in God!

Ooze with God’s Love

Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one [the only God]!  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind and with all your soul and with all your strength [your entire being]. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5, AMP)

I want to take 30 days to study what it means to “Love God with all my heart, soul, and strength”.  I want to find out where my life is honoring God in this command and where I’m lacking.  By the end of 30 days, I want to have a greater love for God.  I want to truly understand the sacrifice His Son made on my behalf and appreciate it.

God is All Holy

If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men! They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. (Psalm 139:19-20

David is so passionate about the things of God that he declares that even God’s enemies are his enemies.  He wants nothing to do with those who stand against God or use His name in vain.  He wants to align himself with people who take seriously who God is and give reverence to His name.  David was simply pledging his loyalty to the Lord.  He knew how awesome God was and he couldn’t bear the thought of someone misusing, misrepresenting, or mishandling the name of God.

Do you treat God like He is All-Holy?  Do you have reverence for His name?  Do you cringe when someone misuses the name of the Lord? Read more

To Be Like Christ

All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]. (1 Corinthians 10:23, AMP)

Why fill our hearts and minds
With what doesn’t edify
And doesn’t help our spirits grow
To be truly unified

What we believe in our minds
We should believe in our hearts
So we will speak with sincerity
What the word of God imparts
