Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance. (Proverbs 1:5)

Solomon, the author of Proverbs, was a very wise man.  He had the opportunity to ask God for anything and the thing he asked for was wisdom.  We now have the opportunity to glean from that wisdom.  These words above remind us how important it is to listen and learn.  We find guidance in discernment.  Discernment comes from our connection to God.  We get connected to God by getting to know Him.  Let’s continue to learn from the Word and see what it has to offer us.  May our ears be in tune to the work of God and may we truly listen for God’s guidance!  I pray the Word will come alive for you today!

The Waiting Game

…Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight paths for him. (Luke 3:4)

Have you ever had to wait for something?  Did it take a lot of patience?  Was it worth the wait?  If you are anything like me, you have had to wait for a great many things.  Maybe you are even waiting for something now.  What does your life resemble when you’re waiting?  I can honestly say that at times I do well with the waiting game and at times I fail miserably.  I probably fail more times than I care to admit.  My time is just a little different from God’s.  That’s why I’m really enjoying this next passage of Scripture we are going to go through together.

Let’s take a look at four different people who were waiting for the coming Messiah.  What did their lives look like as they waited?

Sweet Surrender

For nothing is impossible with God. (Luke 1:37)

Yesterday, I challenged you to read Luke 1 & 2.  For those of you who were able to dive in and read this portion of Scripture… you might have come across these six dynamic words!  This is a very short verse, but wow they pack a powerful message.  There is nothing that my God and your God cannot do!  Do you believe it?  Well, let’s take a look into the lives of two people who found out exactly what God can do.

The first one we come across is Zechariah.  I know many of you know the story and have heard it just recently, but let’s dive in just a little bit deeper.  Zechariah was a man who observed the Lord’s commandments and he was upright in the sight of the Lord.  He and his wife Elizabeth had no children.  They were both well advanced in years and it was starting to look grim in the child bearing area.  But one day Zechariah was the priest chosen to burn incense in the temple.  He went in to do his duty and was given a surprise.  An angel of the Lord came to visit him.  His initial reaction was fear, but the angel calmed his fears.  Here is the angel’s response:

“Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard.  Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John…” (Luke 1:13)

True Meaning of Christmas

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. (Matthew 25:35-36)
The old man sat in his gas station on a cold Christmas Eve.  He hadn’t been anywhere in years since his wife had passed away.  It was just another day to him.  He didn’t hate Christmas, just couldn’t find a reason to celebrate.  He was sitting there looking at the snow that had been falling for the last hour and wondering what it was all about when the door opened and a homeless man stepped through. Only a Moment

For only a moment…

They would try to stay at the inn

Soon they would find no room for Him

The manger would be the place of birth

The beginning of peace on earth

For only a moment…

A star stood still in the sky

While the wise men’s journey came nigh

They went to worship the newborn King

For this the angels did sing
