God Knows My Name

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so far is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:11-12)

I have had a wonderful opportunity to step up as a teacher over a 4th grade class room at my church.  I have to say that I have the greatest group of 4th graders you will ever meet.  Their hearts are tender, their ready to learn, they are kind, and they love Jesus.  I have enjoyed being their teacher so much!   Just two weeks ago, God showed me something very valuable during my time with them.  In fact, it had only been my third time teaching the class.  The first two times I taught, I had everyone go around and introduce themselves.  I was really trying hard to make sure I remembered each name, as different children showed up both times.

Well, this last time that I taught… the kids saw it was me and said “Your not going to make us go around and say our names again, are you?”  I said no, I think I got it down now.  So they proceeded to cover their name tags and quiz me.  Each one calling out, “Do you know my name?”  Fortunately, the Holy Spirit brought each name back to my memory.  Oh how each child lit up as I told them what their name was.  It was as if they were saying, “She knows me, I’m someone special, she knows my name.”  It was a beautiful moment to be a part of.

Names of God

Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:26-27)

Soaking Up God’s Goodness

On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:37-38)

Every time I read Scripture, I want to absorb as much as possible.  My desire is to soak up all God’s goodness, His faithfulness, His mercy, His love, and so much more.  I want to soak it up, so that when people squeeze me… The goodness of God comes out.  I pray that I will become a living sponge for the things of God.

Promise Land

Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)

Joshua is one of my favorite characters in the Bible.  He was bold, he was enthusiastic about God, and almost always saw the glass as half full.  He was my kind of guy.  The type of person I could see myself being friends with.  Let’s find out who he was and what God commissioned him to do!

The first time we meet Joshua in Scripture is when he came back from the land of giants with his friend Caleb.  Caleb said, “We can take those guys, no problem!”  That’s me paraphrasing it, of course!  There were 12 spies that went out and Joshua was one of two who came back believing they could go forward and overtake the land.  (Read Numbers 13:26-33)

Then we see Joshua is mentioned again a little later for the condition of his heart.

“Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years old or more who came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob– not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord, wholeheartedly.” (Numbers 32:11-12)
