Soaking Up God’s Goodness

On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:37-38)

Every time I read Scripture, I want to absorb as much as possible.  My desire is to soak up all God’s goodness, His faithfulness, His mercy, His love, and so much more.  I want to soak it up, so that when people squeeze me… The goodness of God comes out.  I pray that I will become a living sponge for the things of God.

I don’t want to soak up things that will not benefit eternity.  I want to soak up things that will bless others, encourage them, and help them to see the love of my Father.  My prayer is that my sponge will be resistant to the things of this world.  May it only soak up that which I find in Galatians 5:22, as this sums it all up.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.”

I will soak up these things, so that when people squeeze the life I live in God…  they will experience abundant love, beautiful joy, complete peace, wonderful patience, and crazy kindness!  What happens when life squeezes you?  Does the goodness of God come out?  Let’s be a people who soak up God’s goodness and His many qualities, so that the same will spill out of us when we are squeezed.

Dear Father God, I pray that my life will be resistant to anything that is not of You!  May I only soak up the qualities I find in Galatians 5:22 and may those qualities overflow from my life to others.  May I be a sponge for Your glory!
