Tame the Titanic

When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.  Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.  Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.  All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. (James 3:3-8)

Wow!  The tongue carries a lot of power in it.  I’m sure many of you have experienced it’s power, whether you have been built up by it or destroyed by it.  The Truth we are facing is how well are we controlling our tongues.   Read more

U-Turn When Necessary

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

This verse is so refreshing to me.  It is in this place that Solomon has finished building the Temple, he has dedicated it to God, and feels like what he set out to do is now finished.  During the night the Lord appears to him.  In this time the words above that I have shared are spoken clearly to Solomon.  Let me take the time to break them down and find out what they mean for us, right now, today!

If my people, who are called by my name…

This is a huge beginning to the verse.  God’s people.  You’re not just anyone when you make Jesus Lord of your life.  Yes, in the Old Testament God is talking to the Israelites and right now I am applying this verse to our time.  We are all part of God’s chosen people through the blood of Jesus.  I can’t imagine belonging to anyone else or having any better title than “God’s people.”  What a great start to the day!  It makes me get excited and ask, “What’s next?”  What is God going to ask us to do?  And how will He follow through on His side of the bargain?  Let’s see!

Because I Said So

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’ The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.” (Lamentations 3:22-26)

Time to take a break from Psalm 119.  The website I have been talking about will be going live today and I want to talk about God’s faithfulness.  I will return to Psalm 119 when the Lord leads me to.  For now, please enjoy the many different passages of scripture that God wants us to explore together. Lessons of Righteousness ~ Psalm 119 Part 7

God, teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course. Give me insight so I can do what you tell me—my whole life long, obedient response. Guide me down the road of your commandments; I love traveling this freeway! Give me a bent for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot. Divert my eyes from toys and trinkets, invigorate me on the pilgrim way. Affirm your promises to me—promises made to all who fear you. Deflect the harsh words of my critics—but what you say is always so good. See how hungry I am for your counsel; preserve my life through your righteous ways! (Psalm 119:33-40, MSG)

Moving forward…
1.  We are revived by God’s Word.
2.  The Word is our instruction for life.
3.  The Word gives us determination for life.
4.  We grow when we are obedient to God’s Word.
5.  We increase in understanding as we pursue the Truth in God’s Word.

Pursuit for the Truth ~ Psalm 119 Part 6

Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions. I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations. I cling to your laws.  Lord, don’t let me be put to shame! I will pursue your commands, for you expand my understanding. (Psalm 119:29-32, NLT)

Yesterday we learned we are revived by God’s Word, we are to use it as a means to reflect on how we conduct our day, God’s Word teaches us about His character, and it will always be there to strengthen us.  Let’s continue into the next phase of Psalm 119.

INSTRUCTION ~ “Keep me from lying to myself…”

The Lord asks us to live by the Truth of His Word every day.  May we not compromise even in the smallest form, but may way see it as a privilege to know His Word.  His Word provides the instruction on life and when we follow it we can live life to the fullest.  May we ask God to reveal even the slightest lie that we may be hiding behind, so that we can be fully revealed in God’s Truth.  The Truth will set us free and there’s nothing better than living in the freedom of God.
