Because I Said So
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’ The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.” (Lamentations 3:22-26)
Time to take a break from Psalm 119. The website I have been talking about will be going live today and I want to talk about God’s faithfulness. I will return to Psalm 119 when the Lord leads me to. For now, please enjoy the many different passages of scripture that God wants us to explore together.
1. Because I said so
The famous line used by so many parents. The one line that most people grow up saying they will never use on their children, but end up using it. We like simple answers. Well, right here in Lamentations Jeremiah (many scholars believe it’s Jeremiah) is going through a very difficult time. He has just seen Jerusalem and the Temple destroyed. He is spending time with the Lord crying over this destruction. God comes in this time of sorrow to comfort Jeremiah with words that start out with “Because.” When life is filled with nothing but questions, God comes in and has nothing but answers! Because of God’s love we do not have to be consumed by the circumstances that surround us. No matter how gloomy it might get or how difficult things may seem. God wants us to know that His love is the ANSWER to the question. His compassion will not fail us! He will come through even in our most difficult times to show us what real LOVE is!
2. Faithfulness
God is consistently faithful. He was faithful to David when David faced Goliath (1 Samuel 17:32-50). He was faithful to Moses when He called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 13:3). He was faithful to Rahab when Jericho’s walls fell to the ground (Joshua 6:25). He was faithful to the woman caught in adultery (John 8:3-11). God never changes, He continues to be faithful time and time again. Have you ever faced a giant in your life? Don’t worry, God is there ~ remember to bring the stones! Have you ever been called to lead? It’s a scary thing, but even in that God is there. God will not call you forward without giving you the tools to do what He has called you to do. Have you ever felt like the only one who believes in the Truth, like Rahab? She was rescued because of her faith and her courage to help the spies. Has your sin ever been exposed like the woman caught in adultery? It’s okay, God sees it and He will not throw a stone. He wants you to lay your sin at His feet and fall into His arms of love.
3. The Lord IS my PORTION
The world offers us plenty of toys. A new car, new house, great music, television, movies, books, sports, video games, things to fill our homes with, etc. But only one thing can truly fill us up. That one thing is Jesus. He came to die for us, so that we might experience life. He is life. Full life in Him means that we experience His true love. 1 John 4:7-11 says,
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
4. Hope in Him
The Lord desires to be good to those who put their hope in Him. This often means waiting for His timing and not our own. God knows when best to do things in our lives. We need to step away from the control panel and let God do things the way He would like to do things. He has a much better plan. Trust Him! Seek Him in all things. Don’t waste a moment of life seeking things that won’t fulfill you and won’t give you a meaningful life. May you seek the richness of God and desire the things of Him every day! Sometimes you will find yourself waiting quietly for an answer from God. It’s okay! God wants to speak to you in the quiet moments of your life. He wants to guide you and provide for you! May you never lose your sense of desire to seek after Him with all of your heart. And may you always find Him faithful in every detail of your life! Look for His faithfulness and you will find it!
Lord, I pray that my heart will declare your mercies to be new every day and that I will be able to express the joy of your unending faithfulness! You are the One who has given me life and I desire to seek You with my whole being! May You continue to be the song that I sing, the air that I breathe, the words that I say, and the love that fills my heart. All glory to Your name!
