Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions. I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations. I cling to your laws. Lord, don’t let me be put to shame! I will pursue your commands, for you expand my understanding. (Psalm 119:29-32, NLT)
Yesterday we learned we are revived by God’s Word, we are to use it as a means to reflect on how we conduct our day, God’s Word teaches us about His character, and it will always be there to strengthen us. Let’s continue into the next phase of Psalm 119.
INSTRUCTION ~ “Keep me from lying to myself…”
The Lord asks us to live by the Truth of His Word every day. May we not compromise even in the smallest form, but may way see it as a privilege to know His Word. His Word provides the instruction on life and when we follow it we can live life to the fullest. May we ask God to reveal even the slightest lie that we may be hiding behind, so that we can be fully revealed in God’s Truth. The Truth will set us free and there’s nothing better than living in the freedom of God.
DETERMINATION ~ “I have chosen to be faithful…”
We have a choice every day to be faithful to God. You would think the choice would be simple, as God is amazing. HE is always faithful to us, so why would we hesitate to be faithful to Him on any given day. We often forget all the things that God gives to us on a daily basis. He never holds back. He gives to us freely without asking anything in return. Today I choose to be faithful to God because I know His ways are higher than my ways and greater than my ways. I will do my best to follow all that He asks of me in His Word.
OBEDIENCE ~ “I cling to your laws…”
There are often tests of obedience that we go through to see if we will follow through. Will we cling to who God is and not be put to shame? I know that sometimes the tests we go through in life don’t seem like a lot of fun. But every time we look to the Lord and follow through with happy obedience, God surely smiles. HE sees our heart and knows when we are doing our best to be obedient to His Word. May we cling to His laws like we cling to our most prized possessions. It is by living according to His Word that we find freedom.
UNDERSTANDING ~ “I will pursue your commands…”
This verse is so clear. Understanding does not come without pursuing it. First, we are asked to pursue God’s commands, His Truth. Follow His ways and seek His wisdom. Then and only then can we gain wisdom. We gain wisdom through pursuing the Truth. God wants us to continue to pursue Him. He never wants us to think our work is done or we have some how come to our best form. God always wants us to know that we can become more in Him.
Lord, I pray You will help me continue to seek instruction from Your Word. May I be determined to be faithful, as You are always faithful to me. I pray I will be obedient to Your Word increasingly every day. Draw me close to You and increase my understanding of all that You are in my life. I desire to follow You with all that I am!
Living in Your Grace,
