Experiencing Jesus

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

This devotional is part 2 from yesterday.  Here is a link to the first part, if you missed it What about the Nails?

Do you know that Scripture never says if Thomas was able to touch the hands of the Savior or touch His side?  It was enough for him to hear the voice of his Savior and see the One who taught him how to truly live!  Yes, those scars are there and Jesus was willing to show them.  Maybe it was never about the scars.  Maybe it was about something more.  I believe Thomas wanted to see his Savior again.  The One who led him for three years.  The One who taught him so much.  Let’s follow the exchange between Jesus and Thomas, maybe we can learn a little more.

“A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them.” (John 20:26)

What about the Nails?

Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it. (Thomas to the Disciples, John 20:25)

Today I had to pick up a few things at the grocery store and I was reminded how quickly Easter is  rushed away.  The baskets, candy, and stuffed animals are being sold at half price.  Wasn’t it just a few hours ago we were celebrating the resurrection of our Savior?  I know the stores don’t necessarily have a concern for that.  Their concern is to move merchandise.  It was the same at Christmas time.  Everything came in and moved out.  People were in a rush to buy it.  But most forgot to celebrate the Truth behind the story of Christmas.  My hope is that the meaning of Easter will not be lost on the shelves of merchandise.

Feeling Blah

A few weeks ago, I woke up feeling blah.  I’m sure that you are familiar with that feeling.  That feeling where you would be happy to just lay in bed all day.  A feeling that comes out of no where and really has no reasoning behind it.  The week before I was feeling great!  I felt like God was doing some great things in and through me.  It was exciting!  There was really no good reason for me to be in a “Blah” state of mind.  Here are the words I wrote down that night before I went to bed.
~
I had a blah week.  Blame it on hormones, blame it on tiredness, blame it on a number of things. But the blame needs to go directly on me. I take the blame! No matter what anyone says, it’s a choice. I had a choice to stay in this blah state of mind or seek The Lord. I chose the blah. The blah sucked me in and made it difficult for me to escape. The blah stole moments from me this week. The blah lasted a lot longer than it should have.
~
My enemy was waiting for a moment to sneak in the blah, the mundane, the boring. God was waiting for me to come to Him to lay the blah at His feet. I didn’t come. I waited for it to pass. But it didn’t pass. It never does!

Humble Mindset

Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:]…

Oh, that I might follow the example of Christ.  Lord, I desire to have this attitude that I see You had as You took Your journey towards the cross.  Please show me where my attitude and purpose is not pleasing in Your sight  And help me align myself to this humble mindset!

Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained,

Lord, no matter how many times I read this passage… it still blows me away.  Thank You for humbly taking my place.

Sweetly Broken

And God purposed that through (by the service, the intervention of) Him [the Son] all things should be completely reconciled back to Himself, whether on earth or in heaven, as through Him, [the Father] made peace by means of the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:20 (AMP)
