Discover

One of the most wonderful things about knowing God is that there’s always so much more to know, so much more to discover. Just when we least expect it, He intrudes into our neat and tidy notions about who He is and how He works. (Joni Eareckson Tada)

Faith

From the tiny birds of the air and from the fragile lilies of the field we learn the same truth, which is so important for those who desire a life of simple faith: God takes care of His own. He knows our needs. He anticipates our crises. He is moved by our weaknesses. He stands ready to come to our rescue. And at just the right moment He steps in and proves Himself as our faithful heavenly Father. (Charles Swindoll)

Happy New Year! It always feels so great to start a brand new year. I don’t know about you but I love starting with a clean slate, new goals, and fresh opportunities to see God work. The last few years I have tried to make themes for my years instead of a list of goals. I still have goals every year but I have an overarching theme that I keep my mind on. This year my theme word is Essential and I will be asking myself daily “Is it Essential?” Is what I’m doing essential to my marriage, my boys, my writing, my books, my website, my ministry, my family, and my life in Christ.

This year, I’m going to step back and focus in on what’s essential for my life. Webster’s dictionary defines essential as this, “extremely important and necessary”. Is what I’m doing extremely important and necessary? I need to evaluate that every day as I come in contact with all kinds of things that really aren’t necessary.

Emergency Exit Plan

…we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Every time I fly, the flight attendants share what the plan is for an emergency landing.  I know it by heart and I’m sure many of you do too.  I know where the flotation devices are, I know where the exits are, I know the oxygen mask will come down from the ceiling, I know to place it on myself before others, I know the emergency lights will light up on the floor, and I know to put my head in my lap to prepare for the landing.  Well, what would happen if we had an emergency exit plan in place when the Enemy comes to attack?  The fact is I think we would live a much more effective life for Christ, if we had a strategy in place.
