Lion and the Lamb

The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.  The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw with the ox. (Isaiah 11:6-7)

Today I was on an airplane once again and it never fails the drama that unfolds between humans.  I see it in every direction.  I watch it as I enter the plane, I see it on the faces of the flight attendants, I see it with the passengers, I witness the security guards and how they interact with the hotel shuttle employees.  Sometimes it feels like I’m watching a Jerry Springer show unfold.  Drama, drama, drama!  Humans truly do not know how to get along sometimes.  No matter what we do, it seems like our needs always come first.  We don’t have the mentality of, “you come first” when we are on an airplane.  No, it’s more like “when can I get my snack, my drink, my pillow” or “when can I get off this plane.”  Everything is orientated around the “I” complex.  We live to serve ourselves while on these planes we fly.  We forget to serve others and it’s the same way in life.  We fly right by those who are in need of the love God pours into our lives on a daily basis.

Running the Race

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Yesterday, I was reminded about this great race we are in.  A race that began when Jesus became Lord of my life.  I’m reminded that I’m in this race to win.  I don’t want second place and I’m not about to lose.  I’m running with my eyes fixed on Jesus. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things in life that come along and try to entangle us.  Things that get in the way of us running a great race for Jesus.  I’m watching someone right now who is struggling with a decision to do something because of those entanglements in life.  Maybe you know someone who is in that spot too or maybe you are in that spot.  I want to encourage you to “throw off EVERYTHING that would hinder you”.  Here is a portion from my second book that I was kind of thinking about yesterday when these race thoughts came to mind. God’s Doing the Thinking

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.  As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.  As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth:  It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:8-11)

This is a very packed passage and I pray you find all the meaning in it for your own life, as I unfold the meaning of it in my own life.  I truly enjoy how the beginning starts.  God’s thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways.  Sometimes this is difficult to understand.  Like Ralph Waldo Emerson says, “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”  We would all rather follow the trail that more footsteps have been on, the one that looks a little easier.
