God’s Vantage Point

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. (Isaiah 55:8)

This passage of Scripture tends to make a lot of sense to me.  I don’t have to dig too deep or look into it too heavily to understand it.  I’ve lived it!  I’ve seen that God’s thoughts are much different than my own.  His ways are certainly much different than my ways!  I’m very grateful for this most days.  Yes, I did say most days.  I have days where I do not understand what God is doing or why we differ so much on how things should be done.  I guess sometimes I just want to be clued in!  Can you identify with that thought?

A Call to Completeness

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)

This verse can be quite intimidating, if you do not know the meaning of the word “perfect”.  I mean how many people do you know that have achieved perfection on this earth.  Yikes, I have to say I haven’t found any and I myself have quite a few imperfections.  That’s why it is so important to look into what the word perfect means.  What is the context of this verse?  What is Jesus calling us to when He calls us to a life of perfection?  Well, let’s take a look into the Greek meaning of the word “perfect”.

Not Home Yet

Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. (1 Peter 1:17)

Every passage in Scripture has some key words to pay attention to.  You can never read a verse without taking the time to study it and understand it’s meaning for your life.  I often take a passage of Scripture and help others apply it to their lives.  This time I will break down this passage and apply it to my life word by word.  Please do the same in your own life.  Take the key words that I mention and define them for yourself.  What do they mean in your life?   What is the application in your life?  How will you live this passage out?  I can write these devotionals five days a week, but I can’t live them out for you.  You need to read God’s Word, study it, and live it out.  Let’s do things a little differently today!
