Friend or Enemy of God ~ Pt. 2

Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For everything in the world– the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does– comes not from the Father but from the world.  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.  (1 John 2:15-17)

Monday, I shared with you some thoughts about what my Facebook and Twitter accounts have to say about my relationship with the Lord.  If you would like to take a look at that post you can read it here, Friend or Enemy of God ~ Pt. 1  Today let’s look at a few more things.  My hope is that we can further evaluate where God would like to use us through the different activities we daily participate in.

Friend or Enemy of God ~ Pt.1

You adulterous people don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God?  Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.  (James 4:4)

This passage has got me to thinking… If I were to die tomorrow, what would my life say about me?  Would people see me as a friend of God or a friend of the world?  Would people know that I lived my life for God’s purpose?

This week I’m taking the time to evaluate if I’m a friend of the world or a friend of God.  I can really only occupy one position.  I can’t do both at the same time.

Emergency Exit Plan

…we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Every time I fly, the flight attendants share what the plan is for an emergency landing.  I know it by heart and I’m sure many of you do too.  I know where the flotation devices are, I know where the exits are, I know the oxygen mask will come down from the ceiling, I know to place it on myself before others, I know the emergency lights will light up on the floor, and I know to put my head in my lap to prepare for the landing.  Well, what would happen if we had an emergency exit plan in place when the Enemy comes to attack?  The fact is I think we would live a much more effective life for Christ, if we had a strategy in place.

Storm the Gates of Hell

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. (2 Corinthians 10:3-4)

The above verse makes it very clear that we are in a war.  I think we too often forget this.  As Christians, we forget that there is an Enemy out to destroy us.  We forget to prepare for battle daily.  Sometimes we even act as though the war is over.  No matter how much we ignore the war or pretend it doesn’t exist… it still never goes away.

I’m not talking about the war overseas or the wars that men fight.  I’m talking about the war for your soul.  The war for your thoughts.  The war for your God given abilities.  The war for your family.  The war for your marriage.  The war for your health.  Anyone who has decided to give their lives to Christ, stepped into a battle zone.

Thankfully, God has given us the weapons to fight with.  God’s weapons are bigger, better, and badder than the Enemy’s weapons.  It’s time to pack your arsenal with God’s Word and prepare to fight the battles that you face.  Let’s not give the Enemy any more territory in our lives.  Let’s claim what is rightfully ours in Jesus Christ and move forward with a battle plan.

This week, I will be diving into this subject.  I will be praying that God gives me the words to speak, to teach you how to fight in this battle and come out victorious.  May we stand together and become aware of the Enemy’s attacks.

Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance. (Proverbs 1:5)

Solomon, the author of Proverbs, was a very wise man.  He had the opportunity to ask God for anything and the thing he asked for was wisdom.  We now have the opportunity to glean from that wisdom.  These words above remind us how important it is to listen and learn.  We find guidance in discernment.  Discernment comes from our connection to God.  We get connected to God by getting to know Him.  Let’s continue to learn from the Word and see what it has to offer us.  May our ears be in tune to the work of God and may we truly listen for God’s guidance!  I pray the Word will come alive for you today!
