Reflecting the King

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.  Do what it says.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.  But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it— HE WILL BE BLESSED IN WHAT HE DOES. (James 1:22-25)

We were watching a movie last night on tv with some friends called “Deck the Halls”.  The movie came out in 2006 and really is quite funny.  But even more than that, there is a reality behind it that leads me to the sad truth in most people on this earth.  The two main characters in this story are trying to find their identity in this world.  They want to be seen by people around them.  The goal of the neighbor who has just moved in is to be seen on Google earth, to be seen from space.  Isn’t that the goal of most people we meet in life?

All Your Heart

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Colossians 3:23-24)

“Whatever you do, work at it with ALL YOUR HEART”

There are no excuses for giving less than your best to anything you do in life.  The Lord has commissioned us to do everything with all our heart, never lacking in zeal.  I have seen some examples of this in the last few days (in 2009). Read more

Glimpses of Eternity

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6)

This is one of my favorite verses that Jesus spoke in the sermon on the mount.  It speaks to the truth inside all of us.  We all hunger for something beyond what anything in this world can satisfy.  At times we might try to satisfy that hunger with temporary things or people, but eventually we come to realize that God is the only One who can fully satisfy the hunger within us.

He sent His Son to be the bread of life, to renew a relationship with us.  He is the living water, ready to quench the thirst of our souls on a daily basis.  It’s time to go back to the fountain and draw from the source of living water.  On this earth, we will have moments of hunger and thirst, which can only be satisfied in God alone through His Word.

Lead Me

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way of everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24)

“Search me, O God, and know my heart…”

Are you trying to hide anything from God right now?  It’s so easy to hide from people in our lives, but we can’t ever hide from God.  We certainly try to hide from God, but it’s just not possible.  The first man and woman created taught us how to hide.  We can say it’s in the fabric of our being to hide.

“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”  ~Genesis 3:8

Adam and Eve had eaten fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; the one tree God had forbidden them to eat from and now they were hiding from Him.  I think we are much like Adam and Eve when our sin is found out.  We run and hide, but God wants us to come to Him.  Will you let God search and know your heart today?

Humble Servant Prayer

And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 10:1)
A servant waits
A servant serves
A servant asks for direction
Seeks the Masters purpose
Looks to fulfill His plan
Desires to advance His purpose
Humbles himself
Lifts the Master up
Chooses peace
Chooses love
Chooses honor
