The Thoughts of God

Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. (Psalm 40:5)

Annie Johnson Flint has a remarkable story of her love for God and her dedication to live her life for Him during some very difficult times.  I encourage you to read Annie’s story.  Annie did not let the difficult things of life weigh her down.  She did not give up hope, she never gave into circumstances, and she always knew God would see her through.  Her poems can be found at Home Makers Corner .  And her story can be found at the following link Annie’s Biography.  I promise that you will not be disappointed by either links.  I tend to go back to Annie’s poems as often as possible and I am encouraged by her steady stand in the Lord.  She did not waver.  The poem below shares the vast thoughts of God.  I pray it encourages and uplifts you!

How wonderful Thy thought, O God!
Though poor and needy I may be,
How high, how deep, how manifold,
Thy never-ceasing thought of me!

Thou thinkest more than I can know;
Thy gifts transcend my fairest dreams;
Beside the greatest of Thy thoughts
How small mine utmost asking seems!

Standing in Awe

Praise the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.

He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

My Father Knows Best

But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 4:29)

What’s God doing in your life?

I gave you a week off, so now you have two weeks to look back on and see how God has been faithful to you.  What did you see in these last two weeks?  How did God come through for you?  Is God stirring a passion inside of you?  Are you being prepared for something?  Have you watched God work the details out in your life?  Feel free to stop by and share with me what God has done in your life.  I always enjoy hearing all about it!

Honestly, these last couple weeks have had a few ups and downs for me.  I could reach back even farther and say even 3 weeks ago… the ups and downs started shaking up my world.  You see, I felt like I reached the mountain top about 3 weeks ago.  I felt like I got to the top and I was thoroughly enjoying the view.  I was reminded of who God was in my life and all that He wants to do.  Yes, I continue to seek Him daily, but some days I do a lot more “seeking” than “finding”.  Do you ever have days like that?  Well, let me tell you…  I have had a few.

Sharpened by the Word

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105)

I’m wondering how you are doing on taking the challenge to memorize the Word of God.  Maybe some of you are wondering why it’s so important!  Maybe some of you wonder why you should take time to commit Scripture to memory.  Well, I want to dive in to Scripture to show you how powerful the Word of God can be in your life.

The above verse tells us that the Word of God is a lamp to our feet and light to our path.  God’s Word lights our path.  It gives us guidance and direction.  It teaches us how to walk uprightly and how to align our thoughts with God’s thinking.  We are constantly being bombarded by this world’s standards.  There is only one way to fight back and that is through the Word of God.

“For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

Triumphal Entry

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace–but now it is hidden from your eyes.’ (Luke 19:41-42)

It’s a day of celebration!  The King is entering Jerusalem.  Hundreds of thousands of people are gathered.  They are calling out… “Hosanna, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord (Luke 19:38).”  The people are throwing their cloaks on the road before Christ in honor to Him.  They are humbled at the King’s presence.  They lay down their palm branches and the King enters on a donkey.  The prophecy from Zechariah 9:9 is fulfilled.  The moment is filled with jubilation.  It’s a moment that we continue to celebrate and call Palm Sunday!  I can’t begin to imagine what that day was like.

Yet, one thing leaves my heart feeling kind of heavy.  Here is a day filled with excitement.  A day filled with people rejoicing and celebrating!  A day where most people are wearing smiles on their faces.  Yet, there is one who is weeping.  One who rides in, somber as can be.  Yes, Scripture says that Jesus saw Jerusalem and wept over it.  This grieves my heart!  The Savior knew what Jerusalem was missing.  He knew what this day meant.  Yes, today they would rejoice at the fulfillment of a prophecy, but in just five short days…  They would cry, “Crucify Him!”  They would turn their backs on the One they just moments earlier celebrated!
