He Never Let’s Go

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

God never lets go!

God never let’s go!

Some years ago on a hot summer day in south Florida, a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.

Every Whisper

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.  Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind.  After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.  After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.  And after the fire came a gentle whisper.  When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.”  (1 Kings 19:11-13)

A Gental Thunder
A story by Max Lucado, from A Gentle Thunder : Hearing God Through the Storm

Once there was a man who dared God to speak.

“Burn the bush like you did for Moses, God and I will follow.
Collapse the walls like you did for Joshua, God and I will fight.
Still the waves like you did on Galilee, God and I will listen.”

Shooting Straight

Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.  And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. (2 Timothy 2:23-24)

“Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments…”

Paul, the writer of this portion of Scripture is getting right to the point.  He’s not beating around the bush like some people tend to do.  He’s not hinting at what we should do with our lives.  He says it directly and clearly.  We are to have nothing to do with conversation that is foolishness.  When was the last time you had a foolish conversation with someone?  Did you share something that didn’t need to be shared?  Have your words been uplifting lately?  Have you been argumentative?  Paul expressed the need to not get into stupid arguments.  Arguing leads you no where fast and is not helpful when showing people who Jesus is. Avoid arguments as much as possible!

Great Gain

But godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. (1 Timothy 6:6-7)

“But godliness with contentment is great gain…”

It is only in God that we find true contentment.  He is the One who fills us up and gives us true meaning for life.  There is a huge difference between contentment and happiness.  Happiness is a feeling.  You might feel happy today because everything has gone right and then tomorrow things might change.  That’s why God’s Word says contentment and not happiness.  God wants us to be content in Him because this is not dependent on how we feel.  This is dependent on what we have in God.  We can learn so much from what Paul writes in Philippians.

The Best Game Plan

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.  For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. (1 Timothy 4:7-8)

There is so much training that goes into every sport that we watch on television.  Every person that plays a sport knows that you cannot enter it blindly.  You must take it seriously and train as much as possible for it.  I know if I were going to be in a marathon, I would train for it.  My body would need the physical training.  In fact, right now my body is going through physical therapy for my neck.  It’s a therapy to train the muscles in my neck to work properly.  I have noticed a huge difference through this training, as my neck becomes stronger and the rotation of it gets to a normal performance.
