Have some of you noticed that we are not yet perfect? (No great surprise, right?) And are you ready to make the accusation that since people like me, who go through Christ in order to get things right with God, aren’t perfectly virtuous, Christ must therefore be an accessory to sin? The accusation is frivolous. If I was “trying to be good,” I would be rebuilding the same old barn that I tore down. I would be acting as a charlatan.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were stills sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8)
I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. (Job 19:25)
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:1-2)
Does Scripture ever just grab a hold of your heart and not let go? Well, tonight that’s what this passage is doing for me. I’ve read it quite a few times before, but tonight it’s convicting me in a new way. This passage of Scripture has dug down deep in to my heart and not let go. God’s Word has a way of doing that when we spend time in it. God constantly wants to renew us through it and bring us to a new understanding of who He is and can be in our lives.
