But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have… (1 Peter 3:20)
This last week I was reminded of the power in this passage. People are paying attention to every single move we make and every word we say. It’s amazing how the smallest word or action can glorify God when done with the right attitude. I was at the mall with my husband, shopping for a gift for a friend. We were in one of the stores I had given my email address to. The last time I was there I had given it to someone who was having a very bad day. Now mind you the name on my email address is godizfaithful, so I tend to turn some heads.
The woman behind the counter immediately lit up that day and told me that she needed to be reminded that God is faithful. We had a lovely conversation and she now reads the devotionals every once in a while. Well, last week I returned to the store and there she was again. She proceeded to bring me to another associate in the store. She had called her on the day that I came into the store and gave her the email address. They shared with me how important it is to remember that God is faithful during these times right now and what a blessing it was to have that email address on that day.
After I left the store, I took one quick walk down to another store that I needed to grab something from. I started talking to an associate there about something I was looking for. She said, “I remember you. Don’t you have that email address about God and how He’s faithful or something like that.” We continued to talk and I stood in amazement at how God works. One simple email address had sparked the light in three people.
Now don’t get me wrong. I don’t believe the email address should get all the credit or even most of the credit. First of all, God gets all the credit. People are craving to be reminded that someone is faithful in these days. And the only One who can truly be faithful is God. Second, the attitude to which we serve God goes a long way. I could have given my email address with a bad attitude and it would have put a sour taste in their mouth for who God is. Instead, the joy of the Lord truly overflows in my heart, so that tends to flow out to others. What kind of taste are you leaving in people’s mouths? What does your attitude display about the attributes of God?
I guarantee you will never know how many times in a day you have an impact on another life. Your words and actions go a long way to show people who God is. You have the ability to help people know the love, joy, peace, hope, and faithfulness of God. Will you show them through your life? Will you walk the talk? How will people know that Jesus lives inside of you?
Dear Father God, I pray that You will help me wake up with a fresh awareness of who You are each and every day. May I continue to know You and help others know You through the life I live daily. I pray Your love, joy, peace, hope, and faithfulness will be evident in my life. I want to speak of Your greatness, so many can come to know who You are Lord!
