God Lord Jesus Devotional

The Lord my God

Ask now about the former days, long before your time, from the day God created man on the earth; ask from one end of the heavens to the other.  Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of?

33 Has any other people heard the voice of God speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived? 34 Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by miraculous signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?

35 You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other. 36 From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire. 37 Because he loved your forefathers and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength, 38 to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today.

39 Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.40 Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time. (Deuteronomy 4:32-40)

This passage of Scripture really drives home the fact that the Lord is God.  No one can compare to Him.  Here are a few things I’m gleaning from this passage of Scripture!

1.  We all have an Egypt.  We have a place that we have escaped from.  A place that tried to keep us bound.  We all have had to look into the perfect Word of God and find the freedom that God promises for our lives.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)

2.  Each one of us has a record with God.  We can see from past experience where He has come through for us.  We have areas in our lives where God performed miracles, tested us, and fought for us.  We can draw on these experiences and always remember that God will be faithful.

“He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” (Deuteronomy 32:4)

3.  All of us, who have made Jesus Lord and Savior in our lives have a responsibility to stay in the Word and be transformed by the Truth.  We have a responsibility to hold fast to God’s decrees and commands.  To live them out to the best of our ability.

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)

Dear Father God, I pray that I will live out the Truth I find in Your Word.  May I declare, on a daily basis, that You are God and above You there is no other.  You are the One who loves me, the One who showers mercy on me, the One who soaks me in abundant grace, and provides eternal hope.  May I celebrate all that I have in You and never lose sight of the fact that this earth is not my home.  My eternal home awaits me and in that I truly rejoice!

Declaring that the Lord is God and besides Him there is no other,
