Loved God Created Devotional New Year

The Earth is Mine

Then God said, “Let us make man in our own image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” (Genesis 1:26)

Yes, I’m sure you have heard this verse before and many times at that.  But maybe it’s time to go back to the beginning.  The place where there was no sin.  A place where only God and man existed.  A place where man was able to enjoy sweet fellowship with God and not have any interruptions.  A place where there were no excuses, no cell phones, no business meetings, no traffic, no illness, no financial strain, no loss of jobs, no house payment due, no one to distract you from simply remembering that the Creator made you in His image.

WOW!  That very thought amazes me!  God did not have to make us in His image.  His image is so beautiful and so indescribable.  Why would He create me to mirror His image?  There is only one answer to that.  He created me to glorify Him.  Everything He did, He did well!

When I look back in Genesis chapter 1, I see many other things that show the sovereignty of God.  In verse 2 it says,

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters (KJV).”

This is right after verse one which everyone knows, even unbelievers.  “In the beginning God created the heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1, KJV).”  The second verse stands out to me mainly because of the last part of it.  Take a very close look at it.  The Spirit of God moved upon the earth, over the waters, before a single human being ever existed.  God moved on the earth.  Doesn’t that give you some kind of comfort knowing that your Father in Heaven sent His Spirit to move over the earth, as to say, “This is MINE!”  This is my territory, my Beloved will be living here and I will take care of her.

Alright, time to put the puzzle pieces together.  You have been made in the image of God.  Now it’s time to act like it.  Will this year be a year you walk out what you hear on Sundays?  Will you be a living, breathing testimony of your Savior Jesus Christ?  Will people know that Jesus lives inside of you?  Can you proudly bear the image of God?

I know I myself do not want to cheat God in the work He did at the beginning of time.  I am a Child of God, created by a Father who loved me enough to make me in His image.  Now it’s time for me to show others what it means to bear the image of God.

  • I will let others go first in the grocery line.
  • I will have patience while I’m driving.
  • I will love those who have hurt me.
  • I will forgive those who have wronged me.
  • I will humble myself before the Lord.
  • I will listen before I speak.
  • I will have a teachable spirit.
  • I will look for opportunities to help others.
  • I will lead the lost to Jesus.
  • I will honor my husband.
  • I will love on my boys and enjoy my moments with them.

Oh, how the list could go on and on and on.  My prayer is that you will create your own list.  May God continue to work in you and help you see that you too are able to follow Him daily in what you say, do, and think.

Dear Father God, Please continue to show me what it means to bear Your image.  Cleanse me from the things that keep me from bearing Your image well.  I want to reflect the things that are in Your heart.  Help me to always remember that before anything existed on this earth, You moved here.  Your Spirit made itself known, so we could always remember that this place is Yours!  No one else can take from You what is Yours!  I love You Lord.  Please use this to bless Your people!

Your Daughter,
