Jesus God Devotional Bible

The Bread of Life

Do you know that Jesus is the source of life?  He is the sustainer of your well-being.  He has provided all that you need to enjoy a relationship with God.  He came to be the Bread of Life, the Living Water for your soul, and the Light that shines in your darkness.  He can and will nourish you, He will quench your thirsty soul, and He will light your path.  Let’s see how He does this!

1.  Bread of Life

If you take time to read John 6, you will find the context for this verse.  Jesus had just finished feeding the 5,000 with five small barley loaves and two small fish.  Jesus performed a splendid miracle right before their eyes, but they missed the relevance of it.  They were happy to be satisfied by the food and thankful that the Lord provided it.  But they missed the meaning of it.  Later, they came to Jesus for more.  They wanted more of what the Lord had to offer.  Jesus told them quite simply that the food of this world will spoil, but the food that He gives will endure forever.  Jesus is the sustenance of your life.  He wants to fill you up with the Word of God, so that you may feast on all that is good and righteous.  Have you gotten your fill of God’s Word today?  Are you nourished by the Bread of Life?  Have you tasted and seen that the Lord is good?  “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.”  ~Psalm 34:8

Then Jesus declared, “I am the Bread of Life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”  ~John 6:35

2.  Living Water

There is nothing that can quench the thirst of your soul, except God alone.  God sent His Son to to be the Living Water that you long for.  Jesus came to refresh you and strengthen you.  He wants you to restore you!  These are His words to you, “…If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.  Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”  ~John 7:37-38

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you Living Water.”  ~John 4:10

3.  Light of the World

Do you know that you never have to walk in darkness when you travel with the Lord?  Jesus wants to shine a light in your life.  He wants to reveal the radiance of God in you.  If you choose to follow Jesus, your path will be lit up by His Word.  This is God’s promise for you, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”  ~Psalm 119:105  The Lord wants to light your path and make it possible for you to walk fully in God’s presence!  The one thing that will prevent you from fully walking in the light is your sin.  Please take time to confess your sin to the Lord!  Ask Him to renew your heart and give you a right spirit.  Please pray the following prayer, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”  ~Psalm 51:10-12

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the Light of the World.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  ~John 8:12

Dear Father God, I invite Jesus to be my Bread of Life.  May He be the food for my soul, the nourishment for my spirit.  I pray that the Living Water that Jesus speaks of will quench the thirst in my heart.  May it flow from me like a living fountain.  May I refresh others as they taste and see that the Lord is good in my life.  Lord, I want Your light to shine in my life.  Please show me where I am harboring any sin that keeps me from fully walking in the light of You.  I pray that Your Word will be the light that shines brightly on my path, guiding my next step!
