Place Your Life Before God

Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. (Romans 12:1, AMP)

This last week, I spent a lot of time in Romans 12.  This passage of Scripture has really been challenging me lately.  I would love to walk through it verse by verse with you and find out what God has for us through it.  Please take time to read Romans 12 every day and let’s be challenged by God’s Word together.

I’m not sure how long this series will last.  I’ll just do my best to break down this chapter with you and learn as much as possible through it.  Come with me on a journey to discover all that God has for us in Romans 12.

One True God

How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears. (2 Samuel 7:22)

This study can not move any further until we discuss this verse.  There is no possible way for us to truly love God, if we don’t first recognize that He alone is God.  There is none besides Him.

I Lift My Hands

Yet a time is coming and has come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers much worship in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

Alabaster Box

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven–for she loved much.  But he who has been forgiven little loves little. (Luke 7:47)

Can you imagine that moment in time when the room was silent and all eyes turned to one woman who came with her absolute best?  It was the most beautiful moment in worship to ever grace the Gospels.  I’m sure you could have heard a pin drop, as Jesus responded to the woman at His feet.  Oh, what a beautiful moment as she offers herself to the Lord.  She humbles herself before Him and gives her absolute best!  When was the last time we gave our best in worship?  When did we come to worship not caring what anyone else in the room thought?  Let’s examine this, as we step back into the story of a woman who was changed by the love of our Savior!

Please stop and read Luke 7:36-50.  Seriously, don’t read on, until you have read this passage!

There are three main characters in this passage of Scripture.  I want to explore what their roles are and what we can learn from them.

Mouth Jam

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. (James 1:26)

Wow!  Talk about a jam packed passage of scripture.  I don’t know how anyone can walk away from this passage without asking himself or herself if there is anything that needs to change.  There are some strong words in here that I would not want someone to use if they were describing my life.  Phrases like “he deceives himself” and “his religion is worthless.”  If you see yourself in one of these phrases, than it’s time to examine your heart and ask God to change you.  Let’s start at the beginning of the passage.
