Source of Life

I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.  John 15:5 (AMP)

Let’s look at who Jesus is and what His life offers for us.  Please take time to read John 15:1-17.  This will give you a better understanding of Jesus and His character as the True Vine.

This passage is fairly easy to understand…  We have life flowing through us when we stay attached to the True Vine.  It’s amazing how much life can flow through me when I’m attached to the Word and all that God says.  But the moment, I disconnect… the moment I disengage… death starts to creep in.  Okay, maybe not literally.  But Satan starts to hit with anxiety, condemning thoughts, frustration, irritation, anger, selfishness, and so much more.  My mouth tends to say too much when I’m not daily renewed by God’s Word.  Yes, it gets pretty ugly.  This is why I have to keep going back to the Word.  The Word is my life source.  It is what breathes goodness into me.

Time for Pruning

John 15.5

This week leading up to Easter I would like to share some devotionals with you from my new book Praying through the Gospels.  I have included some links at the end of the devotion, if you would like to order the book.  Praying through the Gospels is pretty simple.  It’s just a small reflection in prayer on different aspects from the Gospels and what Jesus did for us.  Hope you enjoy this week of devotionals!

Pruning Time (Day 21)

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.  He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.  (John 15:1–2)

Lord, please prune any part of me that is not bearing fruit for you. May the transforming life of Christ pulsate through my very being as I cling to the nutrients found in the source of life.

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.  Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.  (John 15:4)

Lord, I want to abide in you. I want to find nourishment for my soul in the life-giving nutrients that flow from your being. May the sap of the Holy Spirit flow freely through me, and may I bear fruit for you!

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.  (John 15:5)

I can’t do anything without you, Lord! It’s so important for me to steal away as many moments as I can with you throughout my day. I know that nothing in my life will be well done without the power that comes from waiting on you and seeking your purpose through it.

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.  (John 15:7)

Lord, today I feast upon the truth I find in your word.  May your words be stitched into the very fiber of my being that I may live out my days for your purpose. Lord, today is yours. May I live it out in a way that honors you alone!

The Life Giver

What’s God doing in your life?

Yes, it’s that time again!  Some of you have let me know that you enjoy this time.  This time to reflect back on all that God has done or is doing in your life.  I thoroughly enjoy reading how God has been faithful to you.  And I even enjoy the questions about how to handle the tough times with God.  The times that don’t make sense.  God’s faithfulness doesn’t always come neatly packaged.  So as you look back this week, can you see that God is still on the throne?  Can you see that He is still in control?  Can you see that your circumstances are not too big for God?  Can you see that quite possibly, He is working behind the scenes?  I would love to hear how God is working in your life!  Feel free to drop me a line and let me know how I can embrace this journey with you!

I missed writing to all of you this last week.  It was a busy week for me, as I watched my little brother graduate from Basic Training.  I enjoyed hearing all about his experience in the Army and watching him blossom into a man.  I’m so very proud of him and can’t believe that I have the distinct honor to be his sister!  I praise God daily for my siblings and all their accomplishments.  I’m so blessed to have 4 amazing brothers and sisters!  What are you praising God for today?
