The Christian Life isn’t a Competition

I have fought the good and worthy and noble fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith [firmly guarding the gospel against error]. (2 Timothy 4:7, AMP)

Reflecting back on the Olympics, I see a team spirit and oneness of those who competed. How many times did you see teammates cheering on the sidelines excited that Michael Phelps earned one more medal? Or the gymnasts who cheered each other on? Or the diving athletes David Boudia and Steele Johnson who gave God the glory and shared that their identitiy is in Christ, not an Olympic medal? Read more

Pressing Onward

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14, AMP)

There was no greater victory in history, then the victory of the cross.  God triumphed over death by raising His Son to life.  Through this one act, we now can experience victory in our own lives.  Today, we have a choice…  run with victory in mind or stand defeated.  Will you chase after the victory that is yours in Jesus Christ?

Run to Win

You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win.

All good athletes train hard.

They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades.

You’re after one that’s gold eternally.

I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line.

I’m giving it everything I’ve got.

No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition.

I’m not going to get caught napping,

telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (MSG)

An Eternal Prize

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Well, I had a great devotional ready for today.  It was a perfect outline and really flowed well.  But when I went to save it, it disappeared.  So here I am stunned!  What should I do now?  The only thing I can think of is to offer a prayer up to the Lord.  Yes, I could go back and rewrite my devotional but I think I will just write my heart to you instead.

Here is my prayer to God…

Celebrating God’s Faithfulness

God is faithful [He is reliable, trustworthy and ever true to His promise—He can be depended on], and through Him you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:9, AMP)

This week, I want to talk about the spiritual race that we are in.  I want to start by celebrating the faithfulness of God.  There’s no way we can actively run in the race without first acknowledging the faithfulness of God in our lives.  Once we see all that He is for us, then we run with more determination and discipline!  I invite you to celebrate the faithfulness of God with me!
