You’re Not Just a Mom

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)

Ever have those days where you feel like you’re just a mom! I want to remind you that you are so much more than that. Here’s just a short list to remind you that you are much more than just a mom.

You’re the Queen of your daughter’s castle.
You’re the First Love of your prince charming’s heart.
You’re the Gourmet Chef to fill their empty tummies.
You’re the Teacher with the lessons of life.
You’re the Author of the daily pages written in your child’s heart.
You’re the Cheerleader of your children’s talents.
You’re the Nurse for their wounds.
You’re the Encourager of their dreams.
You’re the Umpire calling the games of life.
You’re the Referee calling the fouls on the field.
You’re the Lover of their hearts.
You’re the Party Planner for all their fun moments.
You’re the Coach calling out the strengths in your child.
You’re the Housekeeper bringing order to your home.
You’re the Lifeguard at bath time and pool time.
You’re the Counselor guiding them through life.
You’re the Shepherd leading them to Christ.

You’re more than just a mom,

You are More than Capable

Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20, AMP)

At the playground with my boys, I notice some disapproving moms as I allow my boys to be more independent then some might dare. They are one and three and full of adventure. I hear the comments of those around me and think… “well, only I know what these boys are capable of. I know if I can trust them to climb the heights of the playground. I know them!”

Motherhood Can Get Gooey at Times

Anyone, then who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins. (James 4:17)

So it finally happened. That moment with play-doh that you dread and hope never comes! My three and a half year old decided to stick some red play-doh up his nose. He was not happy with the outcome. Sometimes natural consequences really are the best teacher. For the next hour he proceeded to sneeze and the red gooey stuff came down his chin. He did not like that part at all!

Adventures in Motherhood

Then Joshua set up [a second monument of] twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan at the place where the feet of the priests who carried the ark of the covenant were standing, and they are there to this day. (Joshua 4:9, AMP)

Lately, I’ve been feeling like I want to keep a better record of these sweet days that God has given me with my boys. I want to share some of my adventures in motherhood. I know that one day they will be grown and doing their own thing. I want to be able to look back and see that I thrived through motherhood. I don’t want to see a record of survival. I want to celebrate the crazy moments, embrace the not so pleasant moments, appreciate the growth process in myself and my boys, and more than anything set up places to remember God’s faithfulness through this season of life.

The Bee Stings of Life

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady. (Romans 5:3-4, TLB)

A couple weeks ago I took my boys to a splash pad nearby. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining enough to provide warmth for the fun times in the water and the breeze was great for me as I sat on the bench and embraced the joy of my son Zion splashing through the water.
