Friend or Enemy of God ~ Pt.1

You adulterous people don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God?  Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.  (James 4:4)

This passage has got me to thinking… If I were to die tomorrow, what would my life say about me?  Would people see me as a friend of God or a friend of the world?  Would people know that I lived my life for God’s purpose?

This week I’m taking the time to evaluate if I’m a friend of the world or a friend of God.  I can really only occupy one position.  I can’t do both at the same time.

Wisdom for Life

Wisdom for life comes in many forms but no one can offer us advice on this subject like God can.  That’s one of the reasons I love the book of Proverbs in the Bible.  It’s filled with rich thoughts on how to live.  It gives direction in a directionally challenged world.  It gives a glimpse of what life can be when we are surrendered to God’s purpose.  It leads us towards God and teaches us how to be more Christlike.

I’m excited to announce that the latest book in the Victorious Living Collection is being released today.  You can find Wisdom for Life anywhere that books are sold.  This was a fun book to put together on the Proverbs.  I wasn’t able to capture every nugget in the Proverbs, but I did do my best to give you at least a snippet.

Is it Worth My Testimony

But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy [and acknowledge Him] as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully. (1 Peter 3:15, AMP)

Last week, I was given an opportunity to put my words in to practice, as Satan came charging in to ruin my day.  I had spent most of the day promoting the book signing that will be held tomorrow.  You see that’s not really my favorite thing to do.  The marketing part of writing does not come easy for me.   I love the writing part.  I love being a part of watching lives change by the power of God’s Word.  I love to encourage people.  But the marketing and selling of myself, yikes… that’s just not me!  But I have told myself if I ever made it to LifeWay I would put all my energy in to really promoting the book signing.  So I’ve promoted it everywhere.

No Complaining

Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe. (Philippians 2:14-15)

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about complaining and what it really means when we complain against anything.  Is not every complaint a direct complaint against God?  Is there a single complaint that does not carry with it a weight of consequence?  The consequence being something or someone is put down in our lives.  In this case, I feel that every complaint is a put down to God and actually insulting to the provision He has given us.

Strangely Dim

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (Hebrews 12:2-3)
