Running the Race

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

 

Yesterday, I was reminded about this great race we are in.  A race that began when Jesus became Lord of my life.  I’m reminded that I’m in this race to win.  I don’t want second place and I’m not about to lose.  I’m running with my eyes fixed on Jesus. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things in life that come along and try to entangle us.  Things that get in the way of us running a great race for Jesus.  I’m watching someone right now who is struggling with a decision to do something because of those entanglements in life.  Maybe you know someone who is in that spot too or maybe you are in that spot.  I want to encourage you to “throw off EVERYTHING that would hinder you”.  Here is a portion from my second book that I was kind of thinking about yesterday when these race thoughts came to mind. Because I Said So

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’ The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.” (Lamentations 3:22-26)

Time to take a break from Psalm 119.  The website I have been talking about will be going live today and I want to talk about God’s faithfulness.  I will return to Psalm 119 when the Lord leads me to.  For now, please enjoy the many different passages of scripture that God wants us to explore together. Do you have an ANSWER?

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. (1 Peter 3:15)

This morning started out early, as Paul and I headed out to the airport.  Everything was going fine…we got to the airport, got our tickets, got our luggage checked, and…  Oh, here is where the “fine” takes a slight detour.  While in line for security, we realized we had been marked with the SSSS on our tickets!  We were going to have to go through the, oh too familiar extra security check!

Now granted, I have come to appreciate this check as it reminds me of the things that took place on September 11th, 2001.  I continue to be grateful for the men and women who are fighting to keep our nation safe from any more attacks.  So even if in this very moment I have to feel inconvenienced by a little security check, I’m ok.
