Maximize your Moments

Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16)

For the next seven weeks we will be unpacking what it means to live a joy-filled life. I will reveal one secret at a time that I have found helps in the journey of joy. Please let me know your secrets for living a joy-filled life. I would love to hear them.

The first secret I would like to reveal for a joy-filled life is that we must learn how to maximize our moments. Jim Elliott once said, “Wherever you are be all there.” We live in a world where our attention is constantly divided. Our minds are racing with a thousand things to get done. Often we will be thinking about the next moment before we finish the moment we are in.

Shine for Jesus

Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.  God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill.  If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you?  I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine!  Keep open house; be generous with your lives.  By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG)

Let’s take the time to shine for Jesus this week!  You never know where you will be shining a light into someone’s darkness.  Your light for Jesus may be the only thing that brightens up the office, the home, the school, the store, etc.  Shine for Jesus so that people can know the Truth and find hope in what sometimes feels like a hopeless world.  Here is a story to help put this verse into perspective… Read more

As I Go

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.”  (Matthew 28:18-20)

Lord, thank You for this instruction on how to live my life until Your return.  Lord, please help me to actively be discipling others.  As I walk through life, may I be aware of the opportunities around me to shine the light of Jesus.  May I be ready to give an answer for the hope that I have to anyone who asks me.   Read more

Stay on Course

 You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God.

You’re blessed when you follow his directions,
    doing your best to find him.
That’s right—you don’t go off on your own;
    you walk straight along the road he set.

I am a Disciple

Then he (Jesus) said to them all: ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? (Luke 9:23-25)
