Sweet Surrender

For nothing is impossible with God. (Luke 1:37)

Yesterday, I challenged you to read Luke 1 & 2.  For those of you who were able to dive in and read this portion of Scripture… you might have come across these six dynamic words!  This is a very short verse, but wow they pack a powerful message.  There is nothing that my God and your God cannot do!  Do you believe it?  Well, let’s take a look into the lives of two people who found out exactly what God can do.

The first one we come across is Zechariah.  I know many of you know the story and have heard it just recently, but let’s dive in just a little bit deeper.  Zechariah was a man who observed the Lord’s commandments and he was upright in the sight of the Lord.  He and his wife Elizabeth had no children.  They were both well advanced in years and it was starting to look grim in the child bearing area.  But one day Zechariah was the priest chosen to burn incense in the temple.  He went in to do his duty and was given a surprise.  An angel of the Lord came to visit him.  His initial reaction was fear, but the angel calmed his fears.  Here is the angel’s response:

“Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard.  Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John…” (Luke 1:13)

Who Asks the Questions?

Who endowed the heart with wisdom or gave understanding to the mind? Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?  Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens… (Job 38:36-37)

Someone told me that they saw this book called “Dancing in the Eye of the Storm on their parent’s shelf when they were a little kid and I thought how fitting this is for the Christian life.  “Dancing in the Eye of the Storm”  what an amazing thought!  How different the storm looks, when we decide to dance in the eye of it.

I cannot begin to count the ways that God has used different storms in my life.  There are times I wanted to kick and scream my way out of these storms.  Then there were times I have found myself in the Master’s hand, dancing in joy because I knew He would make everything okay.  I have enjoyed the below passage of Scripture because reminds me that God will never leave the throne during the storms in my life.

He Holds the Answers

Then Job replied to the Lord:  ‘I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. (Job 42:1-2)

Are you in a place of testing right now?  Does it feel like everything is going wrong?  Do you feel like you have more questions than answers right now?  Do you feel like Job?  Have you heard Job’s story?  Well, let’s start from the beginning.

Job started by losing his servants, his oxen, donkeys, sheep, camels, and his children.  He went away to mourn the loss of his children.  He did not understand, yet he continued to trust in God saying these very words…

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” (Job 1:21)

Walking in Worship ~ Part 1

Jesus declared, “Believe me, woman a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.  You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.  Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:21-24)

Before this passage, Jesus has a beautiful encounter with a samaritan woman.  You can read all about it in John 4.  In vs. 20 she asks,

“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet.  Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
