Stay the Course

You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That’s right–you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set. (Psalm 119:1-3, MSG)

I learned a valuable lesson last week through my husband putting up cabinets. I watched him work relentlessly to get them up. I was so proud of his work. Then he measured the space between the wall and the cabinet. It was one eighth of an inch off. Did you hear me? I said 1/8 of an inch off. Me, being the optimist that I am… encouraged him and said it was fine. But Paul was not happy with this spacing.

So we unscrewed the cabinet and started again. This time the cabinet landed about 1/16 of an inch from where we wanted it to be. This was okay with my husband, so we left it as it was. Now you might be wondering what kind of lesson I have taken from this… Well, this has made me think about my course with the Lord. I don’t want to be even 1/16 of an inch off when it comes to my walk with the Lord. So why was I okay with 1/8 of an inch for the cabinet. Well, the truth is I didn’t feel like I would notice the difference.

But I often notice the difference when it comes to my walk with Jesus. I can tell when I’ve gotten slightly of course. Sure, sometimes it takes me a little longer to realize I’m off course…. But I do eventually come to the realization that I need to get back on course. Are you in perfect alignment with the Lord? I know I’m not! I’m daily realigning myself to God’s Word. Daily looking at what needs to change in my life and how I can be more Christ like! I would love to say that I have this down. I’d love to say that I even go through one day feeling in perfect alignment! But it wouldn’t be true! I’m a work in progress!

Have you spent time today realigning yourself to God’s Word? Are you staying on course?

Dear Father God, Thank You for constantly realigning me. I’m so grateful that You never take a day off. You continue to mold me and shape me into all that You want me to be. Please help me to stay on course and daily realign myself to the standards in Your Word!

Really a great illustration. You are so right…Paul is a perfectionist. This is how God wants us to be. Thanks for sharing this. We love you. Dad and Mom

Thank you Mom and Dad! Your son definitely has a touch of perfectionism in him. This comes in handy with every picture he hangs and every task he does around the house. I never doubt that a project will be done well!
Praise God that we can strive for perfection in Christ daily.
      Love, Sarah
