Wisdom Proverbs God Devotional

Seeking Wisdom

The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]! And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation]. (Proverbs 4:7, AMP)

The last couple of days we (in Florida), have experienced the wrath of tropical storm Debby.  It has rained and rained and rained, often with no end in sight.  This has made me think, how nice it would be if wisdom could come to me through the rain.  I would love to go outside and drench myself in the wisdom of God.  I would love it, if it just poured down and took little effort on my part to obtain…  But as I study the Scriptures I see that wisdom is sought, it’s something I have to ask for, something I have to go and get!  Here are the Proverbs that lead me to that conclusion!

“Blessed is the man who FINDS wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.”  (Proverbs 3:13-14)

“How much better to GET wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver!”  (Proverbs 16:16)

“He who GETS wisdom loves his own soul; he who cherishes understanding prospers.”  (Proverbs 19:8)

“Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you FIND it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.”  (Proverbs 24:14)

Everything that I read about wisdom shows me that I need to seek after it.  I need to run after it and treasure it far more than anything else in my life.  I need to go to God daily and seek the wisdom that only He can give me.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ASK God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”  (James 1:5)

Wisdom will never be forced upon you, but it is yours if you want it.  Will you approach the throne of grace with me and seek wisdom?  Will you come on a search with me to find the beauty in the wisdom that only God can give?

What are the things you are searching for wisdom on?  What would you like to learn from this study on the Proverbs?  Please feel free to share with me and maybe your request will become a devotional in the month of August.

Dear Father God, I come to You and ask that You would increase my desire for wisdom.  Please increase my ability to search for the wisdom that comes from You alone.  May I come to recognize where the world’s wisdom has obscured my view of Your wisdom.  I seek to find depth in Your Word and pray that it will transform my life.  May my mind be ever open and willing to search after the wisdom of Your Word.

I wish wisdom would rain down on me too. But, even Solomon wasn’t born with wisdom, he sought it from God; 7 “Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties.8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number.9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” https://bible.us/1kgs3.7.niv

      Hi Rich,
Yes, I completely agree. I was able to write about this on yesterday’s post called… Solomon’s Credentials. It’s very important to remember that no one is born with wisdom, each of us must seek God! It’s a true blessing to know that we have the ability to seek God for His rich wisdom. Thanks for your input!

      Yes, He does!

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” ~Hebrews 11:6

May our faith increase and may we boldly approach the throne of grace. May God continue His amazing work in our lives as we earnestly seek Him and His ways!

      Have a blessed day!

Amen friend. Of course, as often happens, the sun now shines (we live in FL also), and our tendency is to forget… let us remember the lessons. Let us seek His wisdom. God bless.

Yes, the sun is certainly shining. I hope you made it through the storm okay! I second your thought on “May we never forget, but always remember the lessons we have been taught.” I pray that our wisdom in the Lord will increase as we seek His heart for us.
      Have a blessed weekend!
